    Amplifier Advice

Perhaps this would be a good option: https://www.spatialonline.co.uk/products/denon-pma-a110-amplifier

Passive pre-amp with remote/motorised volume control

Very jealous :) A remote is what I miss with mine. I do have a (crazy?) plan to motorize it with an Arduino controlled stepper motor though… will see how that pans out. A Bent Audio TAP-X should be very nice as well, but rare as hens teeth outside of the US.

Passive pre-amp with remote/motorised volume control

Was that the Icon Audio passive-pre (with the motorized Alps pot) or the Smart icOn with the Slagle autoformers? My Slagle AVC sounds nothing like described and I believe many prefer them to the TVC options (not done a comparison myself though).

Passive pre-amp with remote/motorised volume control

Maybe take a look at Khozmo/Hattor - they offer a variety of remote controlled options and are rather well regarded / good VFM.

Royd Sorcerers, phase plugged vs not

Checked the serial nr. - it’s 002421. They’ve also got brass speaker terminals…

Royd Sorcerers, phase plugged vs not

My Sorcerers are plug-less as well. I’ll check the serial number and let you know.

    Connecting REL sub to Naim/Avondale

Did you buy the cable or make it yourself? I’ve read somewhere, that the original Naim subwoofer cable had a resistor (?) soldered in the plug due to longer cable lenghts…

    Connecting REL sub to Naim/Avondale

So, I’ve received an answer from REL… they’ve said to just connect the sub to one monoblock/speaker. I find the answer a bit odd, since not all bass is always mono (vinyl excluded) afaik. They didn’t answer the question whether it’s safe to connect it the way as described in the old REL manual...

Thanks! I’ll also try checking with REL directly…

    Connecting REL sub to Naim/Avondale

I‘m planning on connecting a REL (T5x) sub to my Naim/Avondale system and am rather confused regarding on how exactly to connect it. The system consists of: NAC32.5/(TPR4) Snaps (connected the Avondale method)/Avondale Voyager monoblocks. I couldn’t find a definitve answer from REL (other than...

    Unicorn hunting - DACs . . .

I’m surprised to hear that to be honest. Maybe best to send an email directly to Metrum - it might a while to get an answer back though, but you will probably get it from Cees himself... I actually have the EVA board (=DIY Metrum board) which was originally supplied with DACTWO modules. If I...

    Unicorn hunting - DACs . . .

Do you have the DACONE or the DACTWO Musette? In either case - you can upgrade to the new DAC3 modules. I’ve done that to mine and really like the results. A good step up in resolution while maintaining the character - might be just what you are looking for…

USB to SPDIF converters - any good / bad experiences or recommendations?

I can confirm that it is indeed very good. Previously had the little m2tech and also the Audiophilleo 2.

    USB to SPDIF (Coax) converter?

I’ve had both the m2tech one and the Audiophilleo 2 and the latter was indeed a nice step up. If you’re looking for a compact solution (like the aforementioned) I’ve heard very good things about the Singxer F-1...

    401 plinths

I made a cheapie Loricraft skeletal plinth alike - cost me well below £100 for the wooden parts (plywood, CNC cut). I did replace the squash balls with "palle di epidauro" later on - sounds better (to my ears anyway) and doesn't sag with time. Sadly they don't appear to be made anymore.
