    Paging JohnW - 8200CDQ question

I see that posts drop below radar pretty quickly here, so just a bump to give John a chance to see it.

    Paging JohnW - 8200CDQ question

Hi John, I tried to send you a PM, but your mailbox is full. But your reply to my question may be of interest to other people, so I will post it here. I'm the guy from Poland who was supposed to visit you in your Czech headquarters over a year ago with my 8200CDQ to have it upgraded with a...

At last... (Audiolab) - part VIII

John, I hope you remember to take a couple of CDQ upgrade kits with you! I will unfortunately not be able to visit you in Jeseniky this year and probably not in January, but I'm still very much interested in the upgrade. Pawel

At last... (Audiolab) - part VIII

No, it will not. CDQ does not include a built in player/decoder required to play these computer files. It can only play stereo PCM data streams, so you need some other device (streamer, computer etc.) to convert computer files to a PCM stream and feed it to CDQ using SPDIF or USB. Pawel

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Doesn't surprise me a bit, but we are talking about £2500 worth of a deck now... More than three times the amount I spent on upgrades.

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Thanks a lot for your post! This is exactly the kind of reply I hoped to get. The sound change with acrylic platter you described - is it in comparison with glass or MDF stock platter? My Moth came with quite ugly raw black painted MDF (with rough untreated surface) 20mm thick platter and felt...

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Indeed. I've read a lot of posts (here and on other forums) where people had asked about results of some individual upgrades from my list (TT PSU, OL tonearm upgrade, CARDAS wiring, acrylic platters or Isosub subplatters) applied to lower end Rega decks and practically every time the conclusion...

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Yes, absolutely. This is the open option for the future.

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

I'm in Poland and the second hand market for quality TTs is practically non existant here and buying the whole second hand deck from the UK involves a lot of risks (and significant cost too).

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Again - please be more specific. What deck at approx £750 (up to £900 or stretch to £1000 if you think that better support and record weight were not needed in my case) price point would be a better choice and offer better SQ than upgraded P2? I see a lot of "ideology" replies, but with no...

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Oh, by the way, as I don't entirely trust my memory and direct before and after comparisons would normally be impossible with just one TT available, I decided to make it easier to hear the results of upgrades: I ripped several sample songs using high quality PC sound card (SB X-Fi) at 96kHz/24...

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

As we are talking about similar money here - what would make P5 better than upgraded P2? With my upgrades the motor would be the same. My P2 now has a potentially better subplatter and platter (metal and thick acryl, compared to plastic/resin and glass in P5). Also some reviews suggest that...

Rega upgrades - what to expect?

Out of curiosity and just for the sake of the argument: what turntable below £1000 (there's no way I could spend more) would be in your opinion a better choice than Rega P2 with all those upgrades listed above? Also note than in the amount I spent, included were better support (wallbracket) and...
