It’s the silicone outer jacket that’s the problem. You’ll never get rid of the smell because it becomes impregnated within the structure of the silicone. Why don’t Chord use Teflon for the outer jacket?

600 Hz is much higher than I would have expected for a high pass filter point - more than an octave above middle C. I would expect the rate of roll off would have an significant effect, though. Doreen Bance used to advise people to use these drivers with a hp filter set at 100 Hz to protect them...
