Do Supports Matter with SS pre-amps?

Maybe there isn't a difference ... The world will keep turning.

"Audiophile" quality hardware in the music industry.

this article here goes into some depth about how Rudy Van Gelder achieved the sound he did for Blue Note ... Which I guess is almost the same question. It's also a fascinating read with interviews from several people involved including Van Gelder. Broadly speaking microphone placement...

    £500,000 for a Lennon album!

Hmmm. Well £500k for any record is a bit mad ... But £500k for a relic maybe not so if relics are your bag.

    ROGERS LS5/8

I'd be wary of those one's on eBay. LS5/8s are an active design which used modified Quad amps with the crossover built into the amp (Chord amps on later models). That's what they are designed to use and that's what they should come with. There was no passive version. Minus the amps and with...

    Goldring Lenco

That IS a really nice job Chops. What are doing about engaging the idler?

    Goldring Lenco

As do Pro-Ject and I think some Jelco arms, or theoretically any arm with a mounting distance in the 210 to 212mm region, maybe a bit longer depending on the way the arm mounts, though even arms which fit physically may present some issues regarding VTA. None of them are insurmountable but you...

    EMT 927

NAB or NARTB is fairly close to RIAA. A little more rolled off (-16db v -13.7db at 10Khz) but the bass turnover's the same. It's close enough to be pretty usable.

ROKSAN RADIUS 5 & NIMA ARM

It's a bargain. The Maple version has the advantage that it isn't the obvious dust trap that the clear Perspex version is. Not that it doesn't trap dust between the two parts if the chassis ... But at least you can't see it :). The arm is a peach.

Artists and records you just can't listen to anymore

Comedy impersonations of cockmunch rockstars is probably OT :) I'd definitely much rather watch old episodes of Stella Street than have to listen to Undercover ... ever again. In fact I think I'd rather have a jab in the eye.

Artists and records you just can't listen to anymore

I really struggled thinking about this. Lots of stuff I've never liked. Lots of stuff I liked but rarely listen to (but wouldn't go so far as to say I couldn't) and then I remembered Clapton. I thought he was great as a teen, but these days ... I honestly can't. And then I remembered post...

How to select Volume pot rating?

It's still a good question though - why would one choose a particular value log pot over another value?

    Spotify gaps

haha, quick edit :) I'm sure there must be examples that are on there though.

    Spotify gaps

Big Names:AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Lots of others I shouldn't wonder Small Names: Huge numbers of people on minor labels. You're better served by Last.FM in that respect. I'm not moaning though. I think it's good. Way better in many respects than all this hard disc malarchy.

Advice on recording a live gig

Cheers Paul, I'm fairly comfortable with Audacity. NOt sure how exactly I'd do it, but sure I'd work it out. And thanks snowflake for all the info. I see that there is a Zoom H4n - about £100 more but that allows simultaneous 4 track, 11 hours of 16/44.1 battery time, 6 hours on a 4Gb SD...

Advice on recording a live gig

Good stuff. Thanks. The Zoom looks like a thing to have. Couple of more questions if I may. 1) If I were to use those AKG Mics - how would I configure them for good stereo? 2) Is the stand any good? 3) I see it can actually do 4 tracks - could I actually use two for the live sound and two...
