I heard some very nice sounds when Monsieur Y B André (the man behind YBA) was demonstrating his YBA system in Munich back in 2018 or 2019. Much, much nicer than his 1990s amps I heard at Présecne Ribe Gauche (Paris).
As for long life-expectancy... I'd go for Moon (aka Simaudio), Chord or dCS
For what it's worth...
In my long quest for decent 2am sound I'v found that the amp is the vital factor... It's surprising how good a beefy power amp can sound at low volumes.
PS: Linn can't be that good at looking after its dealers, at least here in France - these days Linn dealers are very thin on the ground here. I live in the 3rd major city district with a population of over 1 million - no Linn dealer anywhere remotely near.
For what it's worth, when (ten or more years ago) my Linn dealer told me he was retiring, I sold my LP12-Ittok LVII-Troika (Cirkus-Lingo 2) and got a 2nd hand SME 20/2a.
At the time the change cost me about the same as one of the proposed upgrades (Keel sub chassis / Ekos arm / Urika phono...
I've been using a Samsung Bluray reader/DVD writer since I bought it and my iMac in May 2014. No problems whatsoever - never used the writing functions but I have ripped a very large number of CDs, DVDs and Blurays
I run Nordost Valhalla 1 and Tyr 2 BNC-BNC between dCS Rossini clock and DAC on the 44kHz and 48kHz circuits respectively - defintely better than the cables dCS supply.
Don't knock them - made by nice people.
Pre pandemic the Falcon room at Munich was one of the few places playing real music rather than "audiophile" crap.
I go for black or silver or black and silver Simaurio Moon style... this even extends to the Quadraspire SV3T
Only the loudspeakers break this colour scheme... they're white.
I've used Kondo VZII digital cables for pre to power link with no problem apart from having no white and red cheannel-identifiaction bands on the plugs :)
@maccar
I've had the apex mod done to my Rossini and my dealer had it done to his personal Bartok - both of us are more than happy with the improvement. My dealer chose the apex mod instead of adding a clock.
@Amber Audio
Before I had the link cable that synchronizes DAC and clock switching in and out of standby I could always hear it if I forget to switch the clock out of standby.
Will you be at Munich? I will.
About the pre amp - I've found that the Rossini Apex and clock actually sound a little...
Me neither, not for a very long time.
I also enjoyed what I had for around a decade before dCS - a Chord DAC64 mkII bought secondhand about a year after the QBD76 came out.
