Looks like an AT19 and a Ortofon style arm,
most probably belt drive.
I'd expect it to sound from shitty to perhaps ok-ish with a bit of luck.
Largely depends on the resonance capabilities of housing and arm + if they gave it a half decent bearing at least.
Competition with be the plastic-bomber...
With magnesium there seems to be a particular problem if oxigen is getting below the paint surface and can 'work' on the magnesium for a prolonged period, that it's possible it falls apart and turns into grey dust.
There's an exotic examples of Italian magnesium wheels that can turn into an...
I can't say much about the Rotel vs Exposure preamp part,
but I never got on well with Sabre based Rega dacs (likes Pop, hates Jazz imo)
for me that's neuralgic, always ended up with some Burr Brown solution with only 1 exception.
And while reading through, my impression is there is always a...
First off that's a good point..
I'd start with a speaker amp combination and while I was firmly in the source first camp in my early years,
for the last two decades I found you can win battles here and there with sources,
but the amp and speakers decide the result of the war.
So I'd start with...
I'm using cable by the meter from the local hardware store meanwhile, similar kind they use for car hifi installations too. Cheap as chips and it just works.
I hear differences from different speakers and different amps even with the surrounds, use Klotz MC5000
with Neutriks NF2C-B/2 everywhere...
Yes I noticed the cartridge tags looked rather like new Cardas stuff and
it generally looked nice quality to me.
I didn't want to hint at any unprofessional acts in any way,
I just stated what I would to if presented with such prob from zero..
Dedicated arm earth it seems to be then..a problem...
Have you got a dedicated earth connection to the headshell somewhere ?
Is the hum the same on both channels ?
You could try pulling off the white and blue cartridge tags and just listen with the green & red connected.
If the hum is there, try the same the other way round, play with only white...
Why is that..?
Your headshell is already drilled through, so you just need screws with a thread fitting the AT95
& long enough to go through the whole head + at least ~2/3 into the thread of the AT ?
I'd rather carefully drill the threads out of an AT95 to have an adequalte bolt in there that fits the threads in the 774 than drilling holes into the hs of a nice original 774 arm..
Edit: misunderstanding, your's are drilled through obvs..forget the above plz..
And taking a bit of the sarcasm out of that,
I see a tendency to try and sell us something new once a market with a specific medium is fed up,
so you can sell the same music on a new medium once again.
And that the effort and cost for producing the medium itself is becoming lower at every new...
I have an indirect experience of a friend visiting me
who is streaming into an active Linn system and Linn speakers but with a diy active cards power amps and a DSP room correction on top of that.
We listened to my passive NS1000 with Pre / class AB power combi from 1974 and my Karik / Numerik...
