MJS, that may well be, but being powered up really doesn't help and the trail of destruction far worse. So always turn kit off when not in use.

Sounds like the best wood for you would be jelutong. Very light and strong. Difficult to get but could be ordered from Champion. Just taken a look online and seems easily available from various suppliers.

If you want to maintain the 'vintage' appeal then you can use either Iskra or Piher carbon film resitors, usually very reliable. Also don't forget the 270R resistors want to be 1W carbon from the safety angle.

Incidentally those little transparent Wima caps are really good, don't let anybody replace them.
