How many pieces of kit do you have lying around awaiting repair or refurb?

Two Linns to build, for which I have all the bits, except one outer platter and a couple of screw terminals for the PSU/ motor wiring, one Xerxes to finish putting into X woodwork- mostly just motor wiring on that too, a TD150 to rebuild, and the 10.5 arm on the La Grange continues to resist...

Looks good. Is there a price yet?

    Speakers for low volume listening

If I only ever listened at moderate volumes, and particularly if listened relatively close to the speaker, say up to a couple of metres, I'd use a pair of Genelec 8030s or one of their other similarly-sized models like the 8331. Acoustic Energy AE1s are recommended by a lot of people too, but I...

    Budget tonearm?

Thanks! Yes, I'm aware of his stuff, and I've bought a couple of non-Hadcock things from him in the past. I will try to get original parts in the first instance, as I'll be selling them all, but now my old buddy Mike Harris of Moth Marketing is gone, it'll be even harder to get Hadcock bits, I...

    Active Crossovers, anyone dabbled?

I've dabbled extensively with both analogue and DSP-style AXOs. I like them. Amongst the options I have here is a lot of parts and a suitable MiniDSP crossover for a pair of Nao Note II RS. I really should build them- I expect they're superb. Open source too, now John Kreskovsky's retired.

    Budget tonearm?

That reminds me, one of the zillion audio things I have to do is try to get counterweights for two of my Hadcocks. Very nice arms, if you're OK with their inherent fiddliness!

    Lowther PM6c speaker

I agree completely. In my case I like marmite, but usually dislike Lowthers, although I have heard them sound good enough to get some idea why other people are keen. Unlike, say, any Rhedeko speaker. Thankfully other folks have entirely different tastes to me!

    Systemdeck Spares

The simplest thing might just be to look for a second tatty but mechanically sound IIX to raid for parts. They can go pretty cheap. IIIs are often even cheaper, due to the Nextel finish wearing, and the motors and pulleys are the same or compatible, AFAIK. OTOH I can certainly recommend Ben at...

    Which Systemdek II

The IIX is a good deck, but even though I'm not as keen on the LP12 as many PFMers, I would certainly agree that even older examples are better than the IIX overall- at a price of course. The huge advantage of the Linn, sound quality aside, is the availability and range of parts available.

Half-Space(ish) speakers - Close to rear wall

If you have a look at the Jordan website, the MLTL30 design looks easy to build and is about the right height. My other suggestion would've been a second hand Neat Motive SX, but you already know you don't like those.

    Oracle Delphi Mk 11

It might be worth talking to True Point Audio. They service and make replacement parts for Pink Triangles, including motors and power supplies/ speed controllers, amongst other things. Not cheap, but I expect they could do something with the Oracle too.

    Koetsu?

Some folks are suggesting that ESCo only retip using the Paratrace stylus. Unless things have changed fairly recently, ESCo should still be able to retip with a range of styli.

    Technics 1210 GR2 any reviews yet ?

That's interesting- although the 'feel' of the cueing lever isn't great, there's certainly damping on mine.

    Moving Magnet Magic!

Not only can ESCo supply new P77 styli, they can also sell you a version with a Paratrace stylus, or even a Paratrace on a gemstone cantilever.

    Change of turntable ahead…

I still think the IIX was significantly better than an '80s Planar 3. A modern P3 is a different matter, but I'd still expect a IIX in good shape to hold its own, if you put an RB330 on it. The III is one of the most underestimated '80s decks, I think. I didn't find my SME V worked particularly...
