Has anyone ditched their CD Player......

Another buying CDs for ripping to flac, no current interest in buying hi-res downloads or renting from streaming companies. Not had a stand alone CD player since the late 1990s, the final one was a Sony something or other with a five CD revolving tray. Always remained a full album listener...

Importing contacts from Thunderbird to Outlook

Well, if you're happy trading your privacy in exchange for a free webmail service from a known data collection corporation that's fine but it's not for me. As for mosey neighbours, I agree, WiFi is easily cracked. I rarely enable it.

Importing contacts from Thunderbird to Outlook

One reason not to use a kiddies webmail service is privacy. Less algorithmic scanning of every email sent or received by dodgy corporations. Own domain and email server is my preferred solution and Thunderbird and an open source OS suits me fine. I will not surrender my privacy to any corporation.

DAC filters. Are my ears broken?

I've tried the filters on my ChiFi DA3 and M8A DACs and could not discern any difference whatsoever between them so happy with the factory default. Maybe 16 year olds that can hear mosquitoes might notice a difference.

    Vaillant boiler installation

I had an Ecotec 832 installed with a 7 year warranty in 2015. It's connected to 11 radiators. The only problem, so far, has been a leaking plastic diverter valve which Vaillant Service replaced with a brass one FOC. No complaints with their service or products.

MQA on non-MQA dac - options...

What are the alleged merits of MQA? Benchmark don't seem too enthusiastic about it. https://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/163302855-is-mqa-doa

    Mono FM radio recommendations?

Refurbished Roberts-Stream 93i radios are still available for 99 quid as a 'Buy It Now'. Mine is used as a bedroom radio replacing a bird's nest Raspberry Pi internet radio set up. Streamed Radio 4 over Wifi is higher quality than either the FM or DAB options. It has a well balanced sound...

    Brexit: a re-vote

The leave vote would probably be higher now, the EU is less popular than it was 18 months ago.

Sabaj DAC2 using ESS Sabre ES9018Q2C

Thanks for the pointer, there is also a bigger brother, the Sajab Da3 32/768, with dual crystals for 25 quid extra. It has twin Sabre 9018s, balanced and unbalanced outputs, async USB and claims DSD up to 512kHz. These low cost Chinese DACs seem to have quite good specs nowadays, although the...

    Hum from passive-pre

These completely cure ground loop hum or whining computer noises. Mine is on the output of a passive attenuator/switchbox but it could go on the DAC output. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&toolid=10001&campid=5338728743&icep_item=250489744414

What do we do with the dumb people?

The book, "The Road to Somewhere" (the new tribes in British politics) outlines the reasons why the remainers lost and to some extent why Trump won in the US.

    police cleared over following moped

Maybe a new generation of special purpose drones might help with this type of pursuit and policing the roads in general.

UKIP news story - cultural translation required

QT is quite entertaining, many enjoy a good argument between random bigots and don't take it too seriously.

The Apocalypse Will Happen This Weekend According To The Bible

The grim reaper has officially postponed the apocalypse, he's on his arse again with cheap supermarket cider.
