I have some Stirling ls3/5a V2's which are excellent, and I'm very likely to try the speakers you mention sometime in the future. I would like to maintain the Ls3/5a richness and detail, but have more dynamics and wide ranging sound.

I don't get why hi fi and also computer/laptop prices have gone up while TV's are as cheap as chips these days, and domestic appliances seem fairly static

Does 'CD quality' mean equivalent to a cheap CD player or a decent one ? - after its been recorded, stored by Spotify on their server, streamed, received by your wifi kit then converted back from your DAC ?

I have achieved great results by using CCA via optical cable into a good DAC. Better than/as good as high end streamers in my view

You should also consider the Leema Tucana ii and Primare i35 in this price range. Both excellent amps

I think a lot of people on this thread are confusing the sound of the FA 906 with other Focal designs which have a harsh treble. The Aria range is dynamic natural and warm sounding with a well defined but not excessive treble. I think they are warmer than Harbeths with the right amp, but more...

Thanks - so I guess me using Primare for 1 day and then hitting a major failure is a one off

So, I just had an ex demo Primare i35. It sounded nice for a day then a few days later - dead. Powers up but no sound output. Its going back. It sounded quite nice and I'm tempted to buy a brand new one, with a warranty BUT It's only got 2 years warranty where longer is the norm, and no doubt...

Well first impressions of my new i35 are mixed. Great soundstage and very rythmical, but this tends to obscure the vocals in rock / pop. Left it for a few days then switched it on again this afternoon and... nothing, no sound. Ulp. Luckily still under warranty, and will have another look later...
