How good is the Squeezebox Touch ?

If something works, why spend money to upgrade for the sake of it? All streamers sound the same, don't you know? ;)

How good is the Squeezebox Touch ?

Yes, still using a Duet in my main system. Coax connection to an MDAC and not the original power supply. I seem to remember having problems with it connecting to LMS in the dim distant past, but once a fixed IP was sorted out it has worked reliably for years and I haven't felt any need to change...

    Persistent pi problems

I've got a similar setup with Raspberry Pi 4 running picoreplayer via a USB DAC. I noticed straight from the off that the output would revert to the built-in sound if the DAC was not switched on at the time the Pi is booting up, so maybe you have the same problem. Workaround in my case is to...

    which one make vinyl system?

Looks like Technics would be an option too. SU-G700 amp, SB-G90 speakers and your choice of turntable for a "Grand Class" system. Funnily enough their "Reference Class" system seems to be geared around digital with no phono pre-amp in evidence.

    Duet vs. Touch for quality

In terms of a screen interface you'd probably want to use a smart phone or tablet app to control it rather than the Duet remote. An app would work whether you're using a Duet, Touch or Pi. I've got a Duet feeding into an MDAC and use Squeeze Ctrl on a Android smartphone and tablet (other apps...

    Sonos for dummies...

Another option would be to upgrade the MyBook to something that supports Squeezebox server. I went from a WD MyBook Live to a QNAP and it serves both the Squeezebox in the main hifi and two Sonos Play 1s quite happily without the need for switching on a PC.

    Yet another DAC question

To get back to the original question, I went from a DacMagic to an Audiolab M-DAC and it clearly sounds better in my system. A cleaner, more expansive sound, that my wife remarked upon as well. Whether that is down to better jitter rejection, different DAC chip, better audio stage, better...

How many SqueezeBox Touch users in the forum

1 Duet with Maplins PSU into an M-DAC. Haven't felt the need to upgrade to a Touch yet.

WAV better than FLAC due to increased processing load on the CPU of the latter?

Quite right. TBH I didn't look at the text, only the pretty diagrams. They describe configuring a second router as a separate subnet, presumably to isolate network traffic even further. Seems like overkill on a simple home network.

WAV better than FLAC due to increased processing load on the CPU of the latter?

Ok, so I'm talking about a hub, which I assume is what the Linn diagrams are referring to when they say router. The point that Linn seem to be making is that using a switch with all your devices attached is better than a hub since you are creating a network segment that only contains the audio...

    CD storage suggestions svp

I use these Muji storage drawers in the loft to store my ripped CDs. http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?V=1&Sec=9&Sub=38&PID=153 They are just about the right size to fit 2 rows of CDs. I've got 10 of them stacked up, holding 600+ CDs. Wouldn't want them in the living room, though.

WAV better than FLAC due to increased processing load on the CPU of the latter?

A router will blindly route all network traffic to all connections. A switch will try to intelligently route traffic only where it is needed. Most devices called routers that you buy in the shops are actually switches, so there is no need to worry about it unless you are getting very obvious...

    Watching dvd's from a computer

A lot of time and a lot of disk space :) I spent ages on this trying to work out the best way to rip and store DVDs and convert them for streaming on my Humax STB. The solution I hit upon was to rip to ISO files using DVD Decrypter (free) then convert to AVI - the only format I could...

    MDAC first listen (part II)

That resolved my issue with a Humax Freeview box. I was experiencing drop outs every few seconds and the frequency switching from 48.000 to 47.999.

    MDAC first listen thread

I was getting the same problem with a Humax set top box fed through optical. It was skipping every few seconds. When the skip occurred it switched briefly from 48.000 to 47.999. I fixed the problem by switching D3E from Full to Partial.
