Arcam 9 is nice amp with the right speaker (like some KEF QXX) but I suspect it really can't drive your speakers like they are suppose to. I've tried it with similar speakers but the sound was flat and boring until I changed the amp.

Thanks Bhamer. I've got a DTC. So I could use this to power a NAXO, get the Teddy cables to connect to the DAC-VC and the monos x 2?

Can how can I run SBLs in active configuration in a TeddyDAC-VC --> Teddy MB100 monoblocks setup? I'm not clear how the NAXO (or similar) would be connected and whether I need I preamp?

The teddy dac is a very good product indeed. I've not heard the async USB version though. However the Hugo IMO wipes the floor with any dac that I've heard in terms of resolution; its not a subtle difference it lifts several layers and confirmed to me that i didn't have to upgrade my downstream...

I had a similar experience when driving quad 22L's with a XS. I upgraded to Spendor A6's but didn't work that well so went back to the quads. When I upgraded to 282/200 the spendors really started to shine and you could see why they cost more. I still preferred the presentation of the quads...

Try using a croft preamp with quad power amp and source and you might get that. ;)

The 99 pre is the obvious choice. You may want to consider the quad cdp2 direct to your power amp if you have a digital setup. The croft 25r has superb synergy with the quad 909 IMO but costlier than the 99 pre.
