    The Rega Elicit Mk5

Very interesting, I’ve not heard the Rega Elicit MK5 but wonder how the sound compares to the MK4 and previous versions of the Elicit.

    Bristol Show 2024

There was a turntable by Silence Alpha which both looked and sounded really nice. Priced at under £1K the arm looked very well engineered. It was fitted with a very cheap carbon cartridge, speakers were Kef LS50 and the Amp was the Exposure 3510. All sounded very impressive too...

    Bristol Show 2024

Enjoyed the show, achieved most of what I wanted to hear. Highlight for me was the Sugden Masterclass amplifier, driving Pro Ac standmounts, source was Auralic. Class A, quality, the realism and soundstage, I liked it anyway. Also was impressed with the Russell K50SE driven by an Aethos. The...

    Bristol Show 2024

Wharfedale introduced the Super Denton priced at £999.95 I liked the warm, rich sound it produced. It’s smaller than the Linton Heritage. There’s also matching stands that can be purchased at extra cost

Sound quality advantages of MM cartridges

The ability to replace the stylus only without the need of replacing the entire unit. Take the Audio Technica MM range or Nagaoka cartridges, both offer some ability to fit more expensive stylus in the range to the existing cartridge or simply do a like for like replacement. You can of course...

[FS] Heed Orbit 1 turntable power supply

I’ve been using one of these to power my Linn Sondek LP12 for many years, very pleased and won’t be changing it. A great value for money upgrade. I can switch from 33 1/3 rpm to 45rpm at the push of a button.

    Bristol Show 2024

Also no Heed Audio on the list, I did enjoy their room a number of years back, sounded really good I recall.

    New Rega Elicit

Anyone heard the MK5 that may have compared to the MK4. Apart from Darko’s review, wondering if anyone in here may have had the opportunity to compare both. I tried the Elex R against the Mk4 a few years ago, the Elicit was more refined but the Elex R more engaging and fun to listen too. I...

    Denon dl 110

I have the DL110 as a spare but I have used it in the past in my system. At present I have the AT-VM95 SH on a rega tonearm. Both are good at suppressing surface noise, the Denon produces a really nice balance across the frequency range. The AT more dynamic, greater slam and punchier sounding...

    budget MM phono stages

Heed Questar I have used and was really impressed.

    Atoll CD players?

I’ve not heard one but the Roksan Blak has had good reviews. Exposure are expected to launch their full width cd player, it was at the Bristol Hifi show.

Solid state amplifier to replace the tube amplifier

Heed Obelisk worth considering, I have the mk2 version, the Mk3 is slightly more powerful. I’ve not had a tube amp myself but have read that the Heed has similar qualities.

    Heed Audio Obelisk Integrated Amps

I have the Obelisk Mk2 but also use an Exposure 2010S The Heed gets me really listening to what’s being played, kind of draws me in to the music, if that is what is meant by the term engaging then I guess the Heed is more engaging of the two amplifiers. The higher frequencies are sweet...

    CD player reliability

My Naim CD5X bought from new around 17 years ago and I’ve never had an issue with it, plays HDCD too.

What was/is your favourite CD player

How did the CD5X compare with the Rega and was the FlatCap used with the Naim? I assume it was the Saturn you replaced the Naim with?
