    Tripath amplifiers

Tripath folded many years ago and would be surprised it there are now any genuine chips left even if an amp purports to be Tripath chip based. I had a 2024 (still have) and a 2020 based one. Nice sounding amps but they were easily killed if the speaker leads touched each other.

    Newbie seeking advice...

For smaller caps I just use my snips to cut through the body and pull the top off leaving the legs attached to the board and then solder the new caps legs to what is sticking up. Doesn't look as neat as removing, but once the lid is on............... Larger caps don't seem to be such a paibn to...

Always fancied a bit of DIY...

I bought one of these preamps a few years ago. Mine was already built but as a keen DIyer I could play around with it if I wanted. If you google you may find reference to some (all?) of these designs suffering from ground hum. I tried a couple of suggested fixes, the first did nothing, but the...

    Power Supply Conundrum

Have you got the schematics for the two 24v rectified boards? You show the Pre-Amp connected with 2 positive feeds and 2 Ov. Should this be a split rail supply of +24 0v -24? Where is the negative feed from the rectifiers connected?

    Mosfet tester

I got one of these as they were recommended on Diyaudio. I am not sure if this is the exact seller as my history won't tell me. There are many who seem to be selling the same gadget at various prices. Is it any good? No idea, but as this sort of thing is used very infrequently and the knowledge...

Using Farnell in the UK - Businesses Only

I use RS and I don't know if it is because I pay by credit card, but I am not down as a business and provided what you order is from normal stock they send it post free, even an order under Ā£10, mine have always been delivered by Parcel Farce.

    Naim NAIT1 Emittor resistor

What type is there now? If you are unsure of the resistance needed or wattage you may need to find a schematic for the amp, or someone with a Nait 1 might be able to help. A picture would also help.

The Good Guys: Seller Feedback (Part III)

Yesterday I went to see Shane (Southall-1998) to collect the Klipsch speakers that I bought. Had a very pleasant time chatting to him and listening to his fab system. A very pleasant and hassle free transaction.

    Modifying floorstanders for more bass?

Out of phase? Were they wired correctly internally at the factory? Check that the crossover is as it should be.

    Happy with what I have...

Well said. I have cured my audio-nervosa, and have a fairly simple system that just plays music the way I like. If I want to be annihilated by a wall of sound and bass so deep and hard it makes you fell sick (if you have too much:D) then I don't care if I can hear the bass player fart, or the...

Just bought a pair of Grado SR60's from Mongeddavid. Pleasure to deal with, quick despatch of goods and they sound great!

    Semi detached houses only

2 years ago I built a room in half my double garage. I battened the walls and used acoustic grade fibreglass insulation with 1" cellotex boards on top of that, and then acoustic grade plasterboard sheets (35kg each instead of 20kg for normal - far far denser than ordinary stuff) and I can get it...
