yet another new Pre/DAC - Drawmer HQ

Arguments about what DAC is used is a bit like listening to Brian Cox arguing for Physics vs. Julian Baggini arguing for Philosophy on 'The Infinite Monkey Cage'. The physics are going to be essential if the Drawmer hopes to better the current Benchmark, Lavry and Weiss references (it looks weak...

    Plasma tweeters!

That doesn't sound to terrible in the scheme of things. How do they compare to your Cessaro Alpha's? Regards, Peter

    Plasma tweeters!

Hi Keith, They look pretty lovely to be honest. What's the price? Peter

What preamp do you use with your active ATCs?

Yes, just with the power amps and only at very close quarters. An iPhone in this case. The Ref500S and 500M's are superb! Really some of the best amps I've heard in terms of balance in that it adds nothing that distracts from the music. Peter

What preamp do you use with your active ATCs?

Hi Ed, I'm really a big fan of Bel Canto. Their products offer the best combination of musicality and transparency anywhere near the price. My only criticism after spending a great deal of time with their amps would be their sensitivity to 'close by' interference (mobile phones etc., class D...

What preamp do you use with your active ATCs?

More reasonably priced is the ATC CA2 MKII @ £1,168, and Music First Audio Passive (copper) @ £1,698 is exceptionally good in terms of transparency. We use both in demonstrations, normally using the CA2/P1 in the context of a passive ATC system, whilst we are currently using the Music First for...

Anyone know if Rega has a DAC on the horizon?

Agreed, they really should. Rega is still a great brand/product to buy and well respected. Peter

Guys, what do you think the DAC202 should cost? Peter

    weiss dac 202

It wouldn't be the first time that other peoples designs are use (if true), but it's the final implementation that really matters in the end, functionality, sound and form. Peter

    weiss dac 202

Hi Matthias, I personally feel so. I'm very impress with its implementation since I can control the volume to a very fine level, unlike using a Music First Audio Passive or Tom Evans Vibe/Pulse 2 for example. Both these preamps (Passive and Active) are very transparent, though they do add a...

Satisfaction begins with the right speakers

Yes, but he doesn't! He recommends Electrofluidics Monolith 20/20 with his amplifiers which is very reasonably priced and made by the rather clever Patrick Handscombe, who has also made some very notable speakers. Cable pricing is just nuts, since it's all about a suitably design link...

Satisfaction begins with the right speakers

Totally agree. I had the pleasure of meeting Laurie Saunders yesterday (hope he doesn't mind me saying) who used to post quite a lot on the Naim forum and still does on Pink Fish. Having not seen him for 2 years or so, I had the opportunity to listen to his fully loaded Naim DAC and...

Thanks. All in hand. Travelling to Southend in 30 minutes (God forbid), so will hopefully pick-up responses from Admin today, sort-out tomorrow. Peter

Igloo Audio. Couldn't add the bio that I wanted (not enough words), so I just kept it to the plain and simple truth. Wheels in motion for Igloo..., so maybe an intial thread that opens the mystery and gives the clarification it deserves. Then everyone can sleep at night and buy cheap Naim...

    weiss dac 202

It doesn't really in terms of the final sound, but then the DAD doesn't offer sensible connectivity for a PC even with the SPDIF module. The modules implementation of toslink is poor tbh, though coaxial is superb if you have a quality 24/96 sound card, Weiss INT202 interface or CD Transport...
