A new belt for the Linn LP12

It's early days yet, but listening to the blue belt on my LP12 (mid 80's, Valhalla pre-Circus) is very encouraging. In short; it sounds pretty great. Deeper, more solid bass notes, more detail in general and improved transparency. The deck also sounds more snappy than before which is great...

A new belt for the Linn LP12

I only just now saw this very interesting thread. Does anybody know the dimensions of the Dindiki belt - they seem to have just the one belt for the "Linn LP12"? In this thread various dimensions are discussed and tested. Am I right in assuming that the 167.5mm x 1mm is the one to have? My LP12...

    Systemdek revisited

I think that a lot of this has to do with marketing at the time. I've had a few (and still have one) LP12s going back to the mid 1980's. When properly set up, the LP12 is a fun listen for sure. The Systemdek III though is also highly enjoyable and its suspension is less of a bother - once set...

    Systemdek revisited

The Systemdek III that I have, has plenty of PRAT (important to me...) and is - in comparison to the LP12 - somewhat more "neutral" in the best sense of the word. LP12 $995 in 1982, Systemdek III $899 in 1982, so a bit surprising that the Systemdek III didn't fare as well as the LP12 in the...

    Systemdek revisited

I use the Systemdek III which seems to be the same, and has a rubber damper ring around the perimeter of the platter. IMO an excellent turntable. It is crucial however, that you use the correct type of oil in the main (spiral groove) bearing to realise the full potential of the deck.

    Dunlop TT

Congratulations Si74 on the fantastic result with the paint! My Systemdek III also needs to have the Nextel removed and a repaint jobbie. Which paint did you use for your restoration please? It gives the overall same look as the Nextel IMO, so I'd be very glad if you could remember these...

    HEATHKITS MA-12

Great! Inspiring pics of these up and running, and your report seems to mirror what I heard when listening to this amp. I have a pair waiting to be restored as well as the matching preamp (USC1) and tuner. Very much looking forward to that. I have vintage Canterburys too (one of my favourite...

    Best tuner ever made?

Dunno if this was mentioned laready or not, but I like the Kenwood KT-917...a lot!

    Thorens TD124 MkI Vs MKII

Yup; in my experience though - having come across the nylon bushing variety many many times over the years, I have sometimes found that there are actually "good" nylon bearings out there, that run dead silent, are play free, yet show very low friction indeed. Still, as you say; in most instances...

    Thorens TD124 MkI Vs MKII

I'm not sure on what basis you have shortlisted the models you mention, but here's my 5 pennies worth, regarding my favourite turntables: The TD 124 can be a great sounding turntable - in my view, and on overall balance, music-wise - preferable to the Garrards. Of the Garrards, I prefer the...

    Sugden Connoisseur - lost classic?

...in fact - having examined these decks...my view is that it's the non-metal inner platter that gives the 166 the sonic edge over the others. The only downside I have found, is a slightly lowered bass output, but the sonic advantages far outweigh this. I also own many other turntables including...

    Sugden Connoisseur - lost classic?

I have several TD150:s and 160:s and in the context of the Thorens TD15X-16X series of machines; to my ears the best sounding model in terms of speed, rhythm and sheer ability to musically involve (me) is the TD166...plastic inner platter'n all - this deck seems to be discarded out of hand by...

    Yamaha NS1000 or Klipschorn ?

The Klipsh...no doubt - a fun speaker. The NS1000 is in my opinion truly overrated, and would end up very near the bottom of any speaker wish list of mine - actually it would be right there at the bottom. I have listened to quite a few pairs - stock as well as competently modified...yikes...

Item Audio "Spoke" for the Linn LP12 anybody..?

Yeah, I know, but then again for quite a few it s an issue, me included. And as mentioned there seems to be no clear cut way to understand why certain models display a "more desirable" (to my ears at least) blend of musical traits than others. Even when it comes to a fairly extremely mass...
