I used my Martin Logan with audio note DAC. Sounded wonderful. With the ESL, my guess is that you want the DAC to be as musical as possible. That's the ESL strength. Same goes for STAX headphones.

Hi Richard - thanks for your help. My question isn't particularly related to their prices but the general construction cost of a pair of speakers of similar quality with components bought directly from the manufacturers. I am sure there is a mark up for them which is understandable.

Hifi hangar doesn't import them anymore unfortunately. I listened to a pair a few years back at their shop, wonderful speakers. I think the latest version is 8c with DSP.
