I view it as simply conquering oneself by achieving extraordinary things. Or, for the sheer hell of it.
PS. The record was broken by an 18yr old lad called Mason Hollyman and he did it in 8:28 on Holme Moss. A massive effort that!
I've heard that a 20 year old pro rider from Derbyshire broke Tom's record yesterday on Holme Moss. It's not been officially confirmed yet, but we know a lad from Barrow who rides on the same squad. Team Zappi in Italy.
@matt j I've heard that there's another 20yr old who rides for the Zappi team in Italy having a crack at the record on Holme Moss next week.
There was a retired 50yr old pro rider doing it the same day the lads did it. He never stopped and was fuelled by nothing more than water and Haribo's...
@andrew d
I'm glad I was there to witness it. It's a once in a lifetime kind of thing. And, I've never seen suffering on a bike like it. Talk about extreme endurance. We witnessed a physical and psychological battle.
Tom did 38 repetitions and Sam did 40 as his Garmin doesn't read...
I was involved in (feed & water) an "Everesting" attempt on Sunday the 14th. My mates two sons Everested Kirkstone Pass in the Lake District. Tom the youngest set a new UK record.

Went out this morning and ended up sheltering under a tree from hailstones. Hailstones in June! Could of done with leg warmers on, too! Talk about four seasons in one day, it was almost four seasons in four hours today.
We're getting really bizarre weather at the moment and it's difficult to...
@2ManyBoxes I've lived with my health issues for decades now. No IV drip. I eat my chips longways on.
I know my limitations, although I felt great straight after the ride, it didn't take long for the side effects to kick off. A couple of days of Calcutta splutter and extreme tiredness...
I did Coniston and back today. First time I've done it in 20 odd years. 44 miles with over 3,500ft of climbing. And to say I'm over the moon with my effort would be an understatement, as health wise, I have serious issues due to having no stomach and only a partial small intestine. Surgically...
"Brifters" is a new one on me. Never heard of shifters being called that until reading it here. You learn summat everyday.
I recently swapped out my handlebar for a Sonder Love Mud Bomber. Best £30 I've spent this year.
