    Headphones are go

To just measure peak listening volume, these fit the bill perfectly. I only need it to be consistent from the starting point, which it is. And I guess it would be a bit better, if I had it calibrated with a 94dB signal, which I haven't done yet.

    Headphones are go

Just set a comfortable listening volume using one of these, and there is nothing to worry about. 12 years with headphones, and they didn't do any damage whatsoever (It was actually going to clubs/concerts without earplugs that was bad)

    Got to get new headphones

I would hunt down a pair of HD250 Linear or HD250 Linear II if you can find a pair with the original pads on good condition. Very good isolation and comfortable with a much more spacious sound compared to the HD25.

Sennheiser HD600, king of the heap

It's in a different league. The HD280 is quite bad, to be honest, the old HD250 Linear walks over it as well if you want it to remain closed (but it's long time discontinued, so good earpads may be difficult to find).

    René Burri Swiss photographer

Great article, I wasn't familiar with his work in colour. André Kertész was another photographer who regulary used long lenses for the street, like a 300 mm.

    What’s your understanding of ‘NOS’?

I wouldn't worry too much about a potentially slightly used tube. In fact, it is probably better than an unused untested NOS one, I had one of those unexpectedly going off in my Stax amp after a few hours of usage, and it wasn't nice, because it took quite a bit of time time to have it fixed and...

Sennheiser HD600, king of the heap

Hi Allan, Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore as I felt I didn't use it enough, didn't have the right environment, so I didn't create enough profiles. It is a key element to the Realiser, while there are a lot of profiles out there to download and they are fun to try, they will not lead to...

    Camera purchase advice please.

I would look out for deal on Camera Price Buster as well, the Sony A7 was only £585 yesterday, and the kit lens bundle was also priced very low. I prefer to use vintage primes instead of the kit lens which are dirt cheap as well, might not be the default choice, but it is a lot of fun.

Sennheiser HD600, king of the heap

The Realiser is certainly a far cry from any Dolby Headphone or similar emulation - as it should be for the price. For me it really depends on your listening room. The bigger room you have, the better because if you have a small room and load a profile where the speakers are placed far away, it...

Sennheiser HD600, king of the heap

The Smyth Realiser is only good if you are specifically looking to emulate speaker sound (preferably one that has perfect room treatment, otherwise the problems will be "copied" to the headphones as well, if you listen to speakers but can't use them all the time, it is also a viable solution) It...

Going back to film for fun and for the hobby.

I am probably selling my SLR film cameras (Konica, Praktica, Olympus) and keep the rangefinders. Why? Because they are a lot of fun to use, and there are no cheap digital rangefinders. I think the Canon 7 (mainly for 35/50mm) and Canon P (mainly 50mm) are very underrated cameras usually bundled...

Telephoto lens for Micro 4/3 mount

Best is probably to determine the subject size and distance to see how much magnification you need. Some animals keep a closer distance, while others will move or fly away as soon as they spot something, even the location does affect that. To be honest, reach can hardly be too much, so I...

Should I sell DSLR for mobile phone camera?

The truth is that if you sell it and concluded it was a mistake in hindsight, there will be plenty of opportunities to buy one again or just try something different for fun. Maybe an even better one as depreciation is never-ending and selling lightly used photo gear for phones is actually a trend.
