    The Hypex nCore build thread

I have to give a shout out to Hypex for their fantastic customer service. I bought my NC400/SMPS600 parts in 2014 so they were actually well outside the 2-year warranty. Hypex told me to ship them not only the dead PSU for warranty repair anyway, but also the good working one, saying they would...

I swapped the PSUs and one of them is indeed dead. Hypex have said to send it in for warranty repair, which is nice of them.

Thanks, the only LED on is that of the IEC inlet switch. There's nothing on the NC400 module at all, and I don't hear the usual "click" when the power is turned on. Swapping the SMPS is a good idea, hadn't thought of that. I will also write to Hypex.

So after a couple years of good service, one of my nCore monoblocks didn't turn on today :(:(:( Opened it up and checked it wasn't the fuse on the SMPS600 but it wasn't. Checked that the 240v was reaching the SMPS600 input and it was. Not really sure what else to check but there is no lights on...

HDMI Monitor emulator for MacMini running Tidal

I use the Fit-PC emulator dongle on a headless Mac mini. Makes a huge difference in GUI speed when connecting using Apple Remote Desktop the machine running headless. It’s more about the GPU being disabled when running headless, which the emulator tricks into being enabled all the time. If you...

RME ADI-2 Pro DAC... anyone have one?

@endust4237 - Did you find that the SMS-200 added much to the sound quality of the ADI2 alone connected to MacBook directly? Or you are using it more for the functionality?

RME ADI-2 Pro DAC... anyone have one?

Thanks. Can you say any more about your setup and how you are using it, or any comparisons with others DACs? As an aside, there was a new firmware update yesterday that would effectively allow you to use it as an active crossover between mains and subs, albeit limited to 192khz rate, that's...

RME ADI-2 Pro DAC... anyone have one?

Fair enough. I control everything (music selection and volume) from laptop or iPhone. And I'm lazy and don't want to get up off the sofa. They really should have just put in a small IR receiver.

RME ADI-2 Pro DAC... anyone have one?

I assume you are using Roon > Device Setup > Volume Control Mode > DSP Volume or Core Audio? I think you can certainly use this to vary the DSP volume in Roon itself, certainly for PCM. I honestly don't know if that works also for DSD converted to PCM in Roon, or DoP. I think the guy I was...

RME ADI-2 Pro DAC... anyone have one?

A number of people have on the RME forum about remotes but I can't see it happening. I could live without the physical remote if it accepted USB volume commands from the Mac side like the MDAC and Brooklyn and some others do. But Matthias on the RME forum confirmed it doesn't. I don't know if...

RME ADI-2 Pro DAC... anyone have one?

Kind offer, thanks, but sadly auditioning gear has to remain in my dreams, I'm based in Kenya and so have to buy gear blind, or rather deaf, without possibility of return. Hence the need to obsessively research on the net beforehand... :)

Yes and still very happy with them and the Ghent cases. It was a good experience building them myself, although the easier option now would be to get the Nord amps, but they weren't available when I did mine.

In terms of fusing if I remember correctly there's a fuse on the power supply internally anyway, and the units have some pretty good inbuilt protection due to having initial power-on startup checks.
