Thanks to those who have tried to give me a bit of guidance, it is much appreciated.
I can feel myself entering the rabbit hole. What started as a simple experiment now has me trying to design a crossover with all that learning curve to slide down.
I have a couple of pairs of Allison AL-100...
Thanks for that, looks like that jig will come in handy. I was just playing with bits I have lying around and this mid bass driver was previously in a transmission line and I wasn't convinced by it. It is said to work well in a small sealed enclosure and has a very flat response so I thought it...
I picked up some homemade crossover boards that I thought were decent. Van den Hul wiring with just a large air core inductor on the LF. I have no way of measuring it. The HF has a Philips 6.8K 100 MKC capacitor in series, a JTM 4R7 5% wire wound resistor in series and a 10W 10 ohm wire wound...
Thanks for that. It sounds like I should be safe enough going with my original plan. As you say, there are a lot of unknowns at this stage but you have reassured me that at least I am in the right ballpark.
I actually have 6 of these trafos and my first post was a bit misleading. I was watching a test of two trafos with same voltage out but different VA ratings. The lower powered one started clipping quite badly. Martin is spot on with the size of 100 mm diam by 40mm high. So assuming it is 100VA...
I have a couple of 26-0-26 toroidal transformers pulled from a 2 x 35w amp. Unfortunately I don't know the VA rating. I am planning on using some L12 amp modules to play around with active speakers. I am not looking for monster amps just enough to drive the speakers at normal listening levels...
I'm certainly no fair lady, but I can't say Northumberland without growling some of Dick Gaughan's Fair Flower of Northumberland. Funny how words and music get tied together in your brain.
Thanks for your replies. I am based in Cardiff and Lincoln is possible but Northumberland may be a stretch too far. There are lots of songs about the pitfalls of Scots venturing into Northumberland and encountering fair maidens. Never seem to end well.
It's good to know there is somebody who works on them regularly as the only stuff I can find on the PM1.5 are a few nightmare stories. Do you know where the tame technician is or even better have a phone number?
I have a Carver PM 1.5 and although it is working I would like to get it looked at and serviced to keep it going. I have found out enough to know that it is a bit of a weird one and I am looking for someone who has experience with the unusual design.
If anyone has had similar and can point me...
The love it or hate it sound is back with a new release Prodigal Dreamer. Maybe everyone already knows but I have just found it and I am enjoying my first listen. Voice is not as abrasive but nice melodies and violin are still there.
I'd be interested to know if tastes are still divided on this...
I'm looking for some advice regarding using Volt 220.8's with passive radiators. I know they should be used in a ported enclosure but I have read that a passive radiator can mimic a port.
The background is a pair of B&W DM7 mkii's that I have been trying to sort out. I have restored the TS26...
If it is an old box of tapes the best feature to look for is playtrim as this is like magic and sorts out problems that can be heard with tapes recorded on other machines. I had a drawer full of tapes recorded on various machines over the years and the dull ones came back to life with playtrim...
