Hello!
Well I waited and waited for the cables to settle down/burn in but the harshness remained after a couple of weeks and they ended up back on eBay.
So in the end went back to the hatpin. I would actually be interested to know how you get on with yours, perhaps the Morganas will click...
Another vote for the Audio Technica VM540ML, and I would go second hand for the phono stage - Vertere Phono stage, Rega Aria is also decent and more on the used market.
Owned an Apheta 2 for several years, always in the fear of twanging it as it was my first MC. Ironically more change of damaging it fitting the stylus guard than anything else!
I feel your pain, but have to say I sleep much better now my latest turntable has an MM cart and replaceable stylus
Update: Got a Morgana 4 pin SNAIC from eBay. Hearing some new sounds compared to the old Hatpin cable.
Surprising how much louder it was when swapped cables, clearly much more music passing through this cable. More open sounding and vocals are more detailed and prominent.
I did find it...
I’ve got the witch hat hatpin 4 cable between my Naim 202 and 200DR and found it to be a nice improvement over the standard Naim cable.
Wondering if I moved up to the Morgana version would it be as big a step up - anyone made the same upgrade?
I am running an Audio Technica VM450ML cart, afraid I am far too ham fisted to be trusted with cart alignment so cant offer any feedback. It was set up with the Magneto cart from the factory and i swapped the stylus for the Microline.
I ordered mine with the Magneto /vm520 cartridge and although it’s great value it really comes alive with the microline stylus. After only 3 days I bought a microline stylus and effectively made my cart a VM540 ml.
With hindsight should’ve bought the 540 cart and ordered the DG without cart...
