    KJ Speakers

An even later reply...and thanks to DSJR for his comments. I have just discovered a KJ advert in the pages of 'Gramophone' magazine dated Oct 1972. It shows pictures (drawings) of all three speakers (Samba £16, Solent £23 and Sonata £32) with a brief spec. It seems the Samba and Solent had a...

    Floor at Dutch Grand Prix

Watch out for the Dutch Grand Prix next September 4th. The Dutch National Anthem will be sung by none other than Floor Jansen of Symphonic Metal band, Nightwish. Two of my favourite things in one package. What's not to like? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/wz1FmAZ8pTo

    The Euro 2020 (football) thread.

What is it about this absurd obsession with possession? Spain, 85% possession - no goals. Playing out from the back - ridiculous! It just puts you under pressure in your own penalty area. It only takes a second to score a goal (Clough) so the rest of the time in possession is wasted. The...

    Your loudspeaker holy grail

When I was a teenager and didn't own any kit at all, I'd devour HiFi Answers and at the time, lusted after a pair of Wharfdale Lintons...but moving swiftly on, I suppose the only speaker I've always been curious about is the Linn Isobarik. Preferably on the end of a Naim 6-pack. I don't think...

    Eurovision: Null pointe

What's that? A proper rock band won Eurovision? I don't believe it. Redemption!

    Just my Imagination...?

No, I just turned it off. It is still plugged in.

    Just my Imagination...?

Thanks for the info. I'm considering having the Karousel fitted to my LP12 so I'll have it checked out then.

What are you listening to right now #58

I was a teenager in the early 70s and immersed myself in Prog. Never listened to any Van der Graaf Generator for some reason...until a couple of years ago. Currently listening to 1st press copy of 'Pawn Hearts'. Wonderful - my 16 year old self would've loved it.

    Just my Imagination...?

So, after a period of leaving my CD5 XS powered on (since the switch is on the back panel and difficult to access), I decided to turn it off. I rarely listen to CDs these days as I have reverted to vinyl. I also switched off the HiCap that's been acting as a second power supply. Now here's...

What has pride of place in your collection and why?

Completely agree with this. The pysch-rock vibes, Judy Dyble and Ian Matthews, real rock guitar from Richard Thompson - it just all works. All this disappeared when Sandy Denny arrived and they fell into the folk-rock groove that, frankly, Steeleye Span did better. A wonderful album. I'd love...

Best LP version of Blondie Parallel Lines

I've got a UK press of Plastic Letters which is a A//3 B//4 cut by George Peckham. Sounds amazing. Always preferred it to Parallel Lines.

The records shops that shaped our lives

When I was living in Harlesden in the 1980s I used to visit 'Plastic Passion' just off Ladbroke Grove. It was run by two guys who, I recall, subsequently fell out and divided the shop down the middle (a la Steptoe and Son!) and renamed each half to continue business separately. You couldn't...

The records shops that shaped our lives

Sorry, only just seen this thread so this must be the latest answer to a query yet. Sooo, St Albans. The Record Room in chequer street was the oldest shop - opened in the early 50s, I believe. Then circa 1971 came Cloud 7 (with their swish purple bags) who had a unit in the then new Heritage...

    Van der Graaf Generator

I wonder whether they will be reissuing individual albums rather than just a boxset? I'd love a new vinyl copy of 'Pawn Hearts' as the original pressings cost a mint! There's only the Cargo release in 2012 and I don't fancy that.
