    MDAC First Listen (part 00110011)

Yes, you are right. But I believe the vinyl of Death Magnetic was still pretty bad? If the original recording is performed digitally with an ADC, then there will a further conversion back to analogue to record the signal onto vinyl. The vinyl would likely exhibit many of the issues that the...

    MDAC First Listen (part 00110011)

Whilst it doesn't fix the problem of the decimation filters in the delta-sigma ADC used during the recording process, the use of a Non-oversampling DAC or a multibit DAC should preserve the samples present in the digital signal. These types of DACs tend to sound more analogue like. For those...

    MDAC First Listen (part 00110011)

I agree, so many recordings are spoilt, even completely ruined, by stupidly excessive compression. RHCP's Californication and Metallica's Death Magnetic are infamous examples. I enjoy the composition of some popular music (Iggy Azalea, David Guetta), but I can't listen to it because of the...

    MDAC First Listen (part 00110011)

Good News: My MDAC remote did actually survive its cleaning / degooing! It either just needed some time to dry or it was the fact that I forgot that I had disabled the preamp in my MDAC. Parts of the remote I still sticky (May have another go at those). The parts that are no longer sticky...

Hi John How much will a new remote control cost from you? Cheaper than obtaining it from IAG directly? Thanks mrflibble

I tried cleaning the goo from my remote with Goo Gone and Fairy liquid. I had some partial success getting the goo off. But now the remote no longer works :( I guess it didn't like the water and Goo Going getting inside via the buttons. I plan on ordering a new one from AIG.

Thanks John :) How many hours run-in do you recommend? Out of interest, what are the extra capacitors for? Cheers mrflibble

Hi John M-DAC arrived back today safe and sound. Listening to it right now, sounding great again through Sennheiser HD650! Thanks very much for your time and trouble. Many thanks mrflibble

    MDAC First Listen (part 00110010)

Okay, I understand. It is all cool :) I have used my MDAC quite a lot, honest! Just not everyday. I look after my stuff :) I had it open before sending to you and it was quite dusty inside because my room is very dusty. I gave it a bit of a clean, maybe that is why it looks like it has not...

Are the images showing about 500ps of jitter? I'm not too good at interpreting the oscope traces.

You could try an R-2R or a NOS DAC, they are reportedly more natural. I have been using a Schiit Modi Multibit whilst waiting for my MDAC repair, it has a very nice and natural sound and not expensive. Worth a punt and if you don't like it you shouldn't lose too much when reselling it. Metrum...

Thanks John, that is good news. :) You don't have to add the new clock circuit. I had changed my mind about that. But if you have already added it, then that is cool too. :) PM me the invoice after you have finished and I will pay you by PayPal. mrflibble

    MDAC First Listen (part 00110010)

Hi John My unit is black still with the protection cover on the display. It's serial number is: AH001842BLBO243 . I included a cover letter. There was an intermittent power up issue which you suspected was a duff crystal. Some of the capacitors were starting to bulge. I changed my mind...

    MDAC First Listen (part 00110010)

Hi John I've been following the thread and I know that you are very busy. I can only imagine the amount of hard work that is required to run your own business. Have you read Schiit's book, "Schiit Happened"? I'm just over half way through, it is very entertaining and offers some insight into...
