I have a boxed pair I bought about 5 years ago and only recently started using them for TV sound. I wonder how many pairs were sold. Maybe people just hang on to them, boxed they don't take up much cupboard space if unused.

It might just be the mains input filter that has blown and taken the internal fuse out. Did you notice a burning smell?

IMO it is not worth leaving it switched on. The motor supply circuitry should stabilise very quickly.

I see this part mentioned as being suitable "optocoupler Vishay CNY74-4" but you would have to open it and see what is fitted in yours. Cheap part and fairly easy repair if indeed that is the problem.
