I had the Evo 2, more powerful on paper than the Brio but sounded dry.
Thinking about it wattage doesn't mean a thing as i also had a Roksan supposed to be 115W,lifeless stupid thing.
It's the output transistors amperage that make the difference and the Brio's Sankens implementation kick...
I asked about valves that i can afford and the replies here confirm that below £500 i see no reason going that route.
I appreciate everybody suggesting a nice alternative match for my speakers
The thing is i really like their sound that's why i've tried so many "budget" amps but i always ended up selling them after a couple of months (circles)
I'm trying to enhance the drum kick, i'm quite happy with the bass and the warm analogue sound.
The Brio managed it to a point but i believe there is a potential to do it better, maybe they need more current to move the drive.
I know Proacs were voiced with valves and Sugdens
I have the Brio-R but i don't like it at all (still can't get the most out of the Proac Studio 125)
I know it's an expensive path and always concerned about chinese cheap stuff
Thanks for replying, i'll stick with solid state amps
Are there any good reliable and most of all budget valve amps in the £500 range?
I read that they must be at least 20W in order to push the speakers properly, below that they will sound thin.
There is a Separo se88i KT88 on ebay at the moment but i don't know if 2x10W are enough to drive 87db...
