What does it mean to you to be English?

No. Just bought baked beans in Sainsbury's for 27p a can.

A Morris dancer or a baked bean?

What does it mean to you to be English?

I just checked my local Tesco Metro. Ā£1.55 a tin of Heinz baked beans. Hold on. When did this thread turn into The Price of Baked Beans?

What does it mean to you to be English?

I wouldn't say that Tommy Robinson was a typical English person. If he is proud of this country I wouldn't let it rub off on me. Typically English I always think of Morris Dancers. Not usually right wing. Usually social workers, teachers, probation officers and the like.

    New Style Royal Mail?

There is no excuse for Royal Mail losing things but- If you want to reduce the risk of losing stuff don't put it in a small jiffy bag. A large letter is usually the same price or a small packet, 45 x 35 x 16 mm, is much less likely to get lost in a mail sack full of parcels. I keep telling...

What does it mean to you to be English?

The pride thing seems a bit confused by semantics in this thread. The word has different meaning in different contexts. I don't walk around my living room saying that I am so proud to be English. But if I was amongst French friends I equally would not be saying how I hate England. It's...

What does it mean to you to be English?

Like my walk around Croydon yesterday (I might have mentioned šŸ˜“) it did dawn on me that riots occurred there 13 years ago and it was certainly a sad reflection on the racial tensions and inequality. But it is a resilience in the community that surely must include some pride within, to move on...

What does it mean to you to be English?

History is chock a block with negatives and positives. You build on the positives. I don't expect the German people to bleet on with endless guilt about their history in the 20thC like some here do about English history. Doh! I nearly mentioned the war.

What does it mean to you to be English?

How Adam Faith got through the beatnik script in Beat Girl, without falling over laughing, I will never know. It's what makes the film for me though.

    Thameslink

I visited Fairfield Halls, Croydon College and Mcdonalds. OK a bit ashamed about the last one. Though the staff were pleasant and helpful. Nevertheless I was very impressed with the positive "air" about the place. That is a generalisation. Some parts are definitely sad and neglected...

What does it mean to you to be English?

Pride or not, starts in your own community. If you and your friends are included, encouraged and supported to achieve your aims, then, you should be able to look back with pride on the place that fostered you. RAYE comes to mind when she bigged-up Croydon at the BRIT's. That is a town in...

I had a most interesting day in Croydon today. Just wallowing in the nostalgia of times had there, 50 years ago, and people once known. Amusing signs initially greet the visitor: Creative Croydon and Croydon Borough of Culture. A bit shocked by some of the dereliction there; boarded up...

    Original heybrook hb2

I was going to say plus one for the HB1's but I have JPW P1's which look like the same thing. Same Vifa drivers. They are quite natural sounding with no undesirable characteristcs. They effectively disappear which is something a lot of speakers don't do. There is an old thread on here...

    Thameslink

It's a bit rustic. Not much there but crocus fields, after which it was named, and a bishops palace.
