New LP12 hinges - insert metal sheet now?

The hinge plastic is under most stress when the lid is down, not when it's up. If you want the hinges to last, leave the lid up more often :-)

    [WTD] PCM1704 - K

Thanks Richard. Yes, expensive indeed, for what was once a $13 part. Ouch. I feel like I'm trying to find a conrod for a 250 GTO for £25. Pete

    [WTD] PCM1704 - K

Hi, I'm on the hunt for a hen's tooth: a genuine K grade PCM1704 for my CD5X. It's lost a channel and I've traced it back to one of the DACs, the one on the top of the board, fortunately, so it's an easy repair, or would be if I could find a bloomin' DAC. I understand that there are Chinese...

    "Audiophile Grade...." - WTF?

= isolation feet/connectors/cables packaged in a rosewood presentation box. Off-the-scale on the cringeometer.

    old, extinct Liverpool Hifi Emporiums

I bought a Denon DRM-07 cassette deck from Better Hi-Fi in 87, which I used with active Diamonds from George Henry Lee. Then a year or two later bought a Rotel RA820A and some Royd A7s from them, then a pair of Rega Ela 1.25, the best vintage, from them in 94 (still my main speaker). Didn't have...

    Balanced XLR V RCA

...the assumption being that equipment fitted with XLR connectors actually has balanced audio interfaces internally. An XLR connector alone doesn't miraculously turn unbalanced into balanced.

    Origin Live upgrade belt

If quality is anything like the build quality of their "supply" circuit board that came with their LP12 DC motor kit then you'd be better off with a knotted strip of TheraBand.

    Record centre

Spot on. And if you wanted to go to town you could include the fact that over 1 revolution the radius of the groove will reduce by a mm or so, so in Booja's example above, if the offset at A is +25 mm, it will be more like -24.5 mm by the time the record has rotated half a turn. The stylus...

    Record centre

Not sure what you mean by "the stylus does not see the radius of the groove". For a given linear stylus velocity, whether it's the higher one of the outer grooves or the lower one of the inner grooves, a cycling radius will have a more pronounced effect on the inner groove stylus velocity...

    Record centre

I remember getting a letter published in HiFi World in the 90s on this subject, triggered by a Stereolab album with almost 2mm offset. The pitch instability is worse on the inner grooves because the offset is a larger percentage of the radius, so the deviation from the cutting radius is higher.

    Hifi pet hates

Tattoos and piercings. Sorry - wrong forum. Hi-Fi dealers with tattoos and piercings. Static elecy on my records and fluff on my stylus.

New stickers for Rega Planar lid?

Hmm...I sent a number of emails (address kindly provided by Paul) to their repair dept a year or so back, asking for advice about setting the output bias on my Elicit-R, but didn't get any response. Just wanted confirmation about the correct levels from the horse's mouth.

    Rega P6 cartridge recommendations

Those look to me like Sound Factory SF7, which were flat packed. I bought a pair long ago (1991) for some Royds. I wanted the vertical Kan style at the time but the SF7 was the closest I could find. I've still got the boxes.

    Herculese mose fuse

The fuse is not a surge protection device. It is a fault-detection device and damage-limitation device. Surges or shorter fast transients won't necessarily blow a fuse. Surge and FT protection devices protect from very short but very high voltage spikes (e.g 2kV), which could cause damage but...
