    Wilko about to collapse

Wilkinson's. Not too many and mostly in the Midlands/north. Think they were still Wilkinson's in the early/mid nineties.

What does it mean to you to be English?

Free snooker; wow ! Chalk it up !

    Wilko about to collapse

Maybe there's hope for the sizeable store in Norwich then. Mind you, under different management, would it be similar to Wilco as was?

Why guilt on speaker cables and such

I was obv. getting confused with the early Naim I/Cs (Lavender, possibly or their predecessors?) I had NAC A4 for my first ventures into Naim (42.110, 32.5/160/250) but bought long lengths of NAC A5 from a dealer somewhere in Lancashire whilst on my travels, possibly late eighties

What does it mean to you to be English?

I think religions are more to blame for most negative things; especially in theocracies. Sainsbury's own is 40p and just the right delicious balance, so Heinz' site doesn't come into it.

Why guilt on speaker cables and such

Agreed, and NAC A5 fits that bill. The longer the cables, the higher the R, but not to any great extent. Not really, Mick. Nothing magical about Naim's cables; in fact I think the original NAC A4 was made by Chord in Salisbury, but could be wrong there. I used Chord Odyssey (as in my post 27...

    Floorstanders to replace LS3/5a

With those room dim's, forget ESLs and rear-ported (or even front ported) speakers. ProAc springs to mind as they go well with valves and are an easy load, and the models which have ports firing down might do the trick. Otherwise I.B. (sealed units like your LS3s which can back up to the wall...

    Sennheiser HD600

As I said and understood. A good can amp should delineate the differences between cans to a greater degree. Although I only had the HD 650s when I had Naim's Headline (powered by my 552 though) I rarely listened to music through it. Even the h'ph. out of the old Cyrus One which acted as an...

Why guilt on speaker cables and such

NAC A5 has been with me for yonks. On a whim some years ago, I tried Chord Odyssey on my big Proacs and found differences but didn't develop an overarching preference. Each run was 11 metres. I happen to have had the Odyssey in situ when my big 2905 Quads came and I really thought I'd bought a...

    Sennheiser HD600

Think there's confusion here as i thought you were referring to the sonic ascendancy of the 600s over the Clears. I now realise that it was the improvements wrought by the Violectric to both cans. I have considered the V when looking for a can amp, but i don't think it gave me what I need...

    [WTD] Pmc Twentyfive 24 Speakers

Strange choice if I may make so bold. The incremental improvements in the three (?) iterations of the Twenty series are not great, but the prices are. The .24 is, I believe, the penultimate in that range, so why not the .26? I have the original .26 and think they're the bee's knees for their...

What does it mean to you to be English?

Indeed, but largely consequential upon our colonial and global discovery days rather than the language itself, I feel. However, I'd say that English has the greatest number of ways to pronounce and utter it. I could be on sticky ground here when I consider China and India, but at least this...

    Sennheiser HD600

And the difference???? I have Elears and Utopias as well as old 650s and my h/ph amp (Myryad Z40) clearly delineates between their sonic signatures but still puts their relative strengths in the approx. order one would expect at their price points.

Anti-skate or What Am I Doing Wrong?

Like it. A novel approach, though AS should never be the same as the VTF i.m.o., except in exceptional circumstances I can't think of !

    Quad Revela 1…users opinions?

I wouldn't exactly class the ESL 57 as beautiful and that WAS their first. Aesthetics of further iterations of ESLs are more of a moot point, though I do like my Classiques (currently with Quad).
