    Technics SL1500c turntable

I've had a new 100c for a couple of months. Immediately upgraded the cart to a AT95 shibata. Sounds excellent to me. It's also a really user friendly piece of kit. First time with a direct drive and it's frankly wonderful not to have the belt faff, and the sound feels more solid and stable.

The Good Guys: Seller Feedback (Part V)

Thanks to kimbleman for the Epos Es11s. Wonderful speakers, great service, and an absolute pleasure chatting about hifi with you.

    Old Naim Naits

I actually briefly owned an Audiolab 8000A, which I initially liked for its controlled sound. But I completely lost interest in music. Went to a dealer in Cheadle who suggested a swap with a Nait 2....... I can't remember who it was, but I'm still really grateful. Still have that Nait in my...

What is the sound quality of Spotify like?

Yes it's easily good enough to enjoy the music without worrying about anything nasty getting in the way. But I am now unsure as to whether I want to invest a tenner in obtaining CDs of albums that sound almost as good via Spotify most of the time (i.e. when I'm not sitting between the...

    Squeezebox Touch & iPeng

It's fantastic isn't it. It's rejuvenated my love of music. However: ...this is a problem I've come across quite frequently since I got Spotify Premium - finding an album but not being able to play it. I believe it may have to do with copyright permissions for different countries. Usually...

Do solid state amps 'go off' over time?

This thread worries me. My 23-year-old Nait 2 has been permanently on for the last 12 years or so. It's just been ousted by an A60 (temporarily) and now sits forlornly on the shelf. Now I'm worried that, like the stereotypical workaholic who falls apart after retiring, it will decay and...

Quick daft question re phono stage

Thanks for the input Robert. I'll give it a go at the weekend. Speakers are Proac Tablette 50s, which are fairly sensitive I think. Any ideas on mating RCA to Din? It's a pain not being able to swap interconnects.

Quick daft question re phono stage

The cartridge is a Goldring 1006, but it was a similar issue with an Ortofon, so I don't think it's a cartridge issue. It definitely sounds right. Very right. Just ridiculously sensitive. I'll have a closer look around, but I won't be lifting the lid in case I cock something up.

Quick daft question re phono stage

Playing my mm cartridge through my A60's internal phono stage, I can barely move the volume control knob at all before the music is getting quite loud. I don't suppose that's a sign it''s actually an mc phono stage by any chance...? (the quality is excellent by the way). Supplementary...

Questions You Were Always Afraid To Ask

Indeed. Most pop/rock live gigs are a wall of noise. Picking out individual instruments is a visual not aural thing.

    Squeezebox Touch owners

    Any particular type?

Recommend me kitchen speakers with oomph please

Rega R1s. Can be positioned pretty much anywhere without inducing boom or loss of clarity. In fact corner placement may fill them out nicely. Open, lean sound, lots of fun. Rega do cheap wall brackets for them. Well within budget s/h. Pm me if you fancy a pair. I've been trying a pair out and am...

    speakers and soundstage

Heh heh, well that should be a sticky. With the caveat that it's more fun repositioning my speakers in centimetre increments than talking about economics these days.

    The Good Guys: Seller Feedback

Bought some Rega R1s off Oakwood. Lovely fellow, speakers have obviously been really cared for. As smooth and pleasant transaction as you could wish for. Enjoying listening to them now. Thanks Richard.

What Is The Modern Day Nait 2?

I think you're referring to my posts. I don't 'recommend' the A60 over the Nait, just reported my own recent experience. I will always recommend the Nait 2, it's magical. My conclusion was that the A60 worked really well in the context of my system, and that my Nait 2 needs a service - which is...
