Buffalo II - Assembly for the Electronically Bewildered.

Tomek, read post #46 here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/twisted-pear/171258-legato-tweakers-thread-5.html I think I have both rails on my legato at 14V. Sounds very good.

Tony, you could for now, make a simple 5V reg circuit (stripboard or bug build) for the mux using the LM317 datasheet. Essentially just copy the 5V rail on the Gigadac. To make it better you could add a pre reg and even a VBE. You would need a single rail of one of your rectifier boards or...

    Fancy Resistors

I once read that the input resistor is quite important as any distortion after this will always be in the circuit.

Tony you've gone buffalo mad :) How will the mux work in dual mono? I imagine you would want to use the i2s output to the dac's. Can this single output be connected to both i2s inputs on the buffalo's?

You fit the R1 resistor in either the + or - position depending if you need a pos or neg regulator. If you look at the bottom of Tony's post above you will see the alternative components needed for a negative reg. 0.5w will be fine. Carefully read the info on Teddy's site for advice on fitting...

Cutting slots / holes in enclosures

Hi Lefty One way to avoid having to cut square IEC holes is to use neutrik PowerCON connectors which need round holes so you can use a 24mm hole cutter...

Tony that's bloody good work that is :) Glad you got the trident issue sorted. This UK company might be good to try for the engraving. The prices seem reasonable and the quality looks good. I'm going to get quotes for my Buffalo and NCC amp. http://www.thebeast.co.uk/cnc/ However you might...

Hi Guys and thanks for the payments so far. However It has been pointed out to me that I made a slight mistake in the total price for a set of boards. Previously it was £19.60 a set. - The correct price is £20.60 for a set of boards I have corrected the first post so I will contact anybody...

    Gigaworks DAC improvements

Hi Phil I'll be brutally honest here, USB is the very worst way to enjoy this DAC. It seems universally accepted that it sounds much better with S/PDIF coax or optical. You are also limited to 16bit / 48khz files in case you wanted to try hi res downloads etc. With this in mind you should...
