[WTD] Full hi fi system inc music up to 12k

There never was a need. As a kid I really enjoyed an Alba all in one midi system. It gave me access to music and that’s all I needed… then I became an audiophile and have spent obscene amounts of money over the years, and then sold everything and started again on a more sensible budget.

[WTD] Full hi fi system inc music up to 12k

In his situation, I would be forgetting about physical formats. You can get a superb streaming system from about £600 upwards new these days. A Wiim amp is around £350, as for speakers, take your pick. With £12k, if you insist on spending it all, I’d probably go with a Linn Selekt with the...

TT wall shelf > uneven wall.

I haven’t read the whole thread so don’t know what others have suggested but how about a wooden back plate? get that flat/level and bolt the shelf to that… and I would suggest bolting it and not screwing into the wood. Pre fit bolts from the back and use nuts and washers to attach the shelf.

    CD in 2024

Honestly, I think you already have two very decent CD sources there. I have a Denon DVD A1XVa here which is the “balls to the wall” battleship big brother of your Denon and it’s right up there through its inbuilt DAC, I should imagine your Denon via the Luxman DAC is very nice. And your Naim, I...

Have you considered this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235352265972?mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338728743&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1 They’re new and this is an eBay listing for a single unit… I’d like to bet you could strike a deal on multiple items directly from the...

    [FS] Royd Abbot Speakers

Yeah I know, if I’d have seen them first I’d have bought them too. I’m all over the country all the time so picking stuff like this up isn’t an issue. Crazy bargain!

Please suggest a simple way to clean records...

Nail on the head pretty much. When I bought my current LP12 in 2021, I decided it’d be wise to buy an RCM at the same time… I bought an Okki Nokki One and I have no regrets. It’s compact, quiet (for a vacuum RCM) and it’s very simple to use, so you don’t need to batch clean. Just do a few every...

    Negotiating Price with Dealers?

I was playing with an Elite Rock 2 the other day, interesting and decent sounding deck… only worry for me is keeping the damping fluid dust free. If I bought one I’d definitely buy a dust cover for it.

    Negotiating Price with Dealers?

My “favourite” firm is the one I’ve kept coming back to, along with my other favourite from Salisbury… it has worked out better for me so far than anything else (I’ve tried a lot of stuff). There is other stuff I’d love… such as an EAR valve amp and BIG Tannoys, that’s a combo I’ve heard and...

what was the last piece of hifi you bought

A very rare think, a Linn Linnk MC phono stage (made by Naim before Linn started making electronics). It sounds remarkably good, not the quietest thing but very decent sounding.

    Naim Nait 5i repair

Just a report on the final outcome of the original subject of this thread, I actually ended up purchasing the amp in its faulty state from the OP. It was the optocoupler that had failed, and as I said I would do, I fitted an IC socket in place of the optocoupler, and plugged the new optocoupler...

    Naim Nait 5i repair

If it just need an LED that needs replacing then it’s a very simple job for anyone competent with surface mount rework. Any reputable mobile phone shop would be able to do that. Given the hassle of shipping anything between the UK and EU now, if definitely try and get it sorted locally. If it...

    Linn bloody Linn

You can change capacitors, lasers and belts … not necessarily user serviceable but then I pay other people to service my car. I understand the frustrations of the OP but there are options. I’d call Peter Tyson’s or Kevin Green, both are very, very good with old Linn kit and if it can be fixed...
