If you've got a big room I'd vote la scalas, or better yet Klipschorns as Tony mentioned. Lack of bass is definitely a real thing, and room placement (corners/near walls) definitely helps (helped me) but only helps so far. I do have a pair of large active subwoofers that I can use as needed...
