UPDATE:
I have an Isis SS/Osiris combo and two Cardas Clear Rev1 interconnects (balanced & unbalanced) and the supplied Rega IC unbalanced. The combo is powered by the Cardas Clear Beyond power chord.
Doing a proper comparison (only one IC connected at a time :-) the results are CLEAR (pun...
Interesting your opinion regarding the Frey, I was considering a Frey2. I have the SS version of the Isis so maybe there is a difference. I have 2 Cardas Clear Rev1 cables in my system, XLR (Isis) and RCA (TT). The Cardas RCA was clearly better than the Rega Couple when I compared them about a...
I have 2 Cardas Clear Rev1 ICs, one balanced and one RCA. Compared the balance vs unbalanced and there is a definate volume difference between the cables. The balanced seems to have more headroom but can sound brash at times.
With this comparison I prefer the unbalanced.
What threw me off was...
Interesting comment about the XLR being more dynamic. I find the XLR has way more volume and I have to turn down the volume dial to compensate. This then begs the question is the lower volume effecting my amp/speaker performance. I have Naim NBLs and they seem to open up when fed more power. Is...
Thanks Paul, doesn't Rega officially recommend balanced for these units? Without having the option of comparing different cables I would like to know what Rega uses/demonstrates the units with. A Couple 2 or 3? What Rega uses is important IMO.
If they do use the Couple is the 3 worth a try...
Who cares? I do! Strange logic, why not source what they use to voice their equipment? Many people don't have the option of comparative listens, opinions of others and the designer help narrow the field at least.
Where's Paul Darwin?
Any idea where I can purchase this online?:
Rega Balanced XLR Cable 1.0m - Product Description
I've talked a couple of Rega dealer who say Rega doesn't make these. It's kinda strange they don't have this available considering they recommend using the XLR balanced cable between the Osiris and...
Does anyone know what balanced IC Rega use or used with the designed these units?
Rega has a new Couple 3 IC available but apparently they don't make the balanced version.
I have been comparing the RCA IC that came with Isis and find it competes well against expensive balanced ICs. The Rega...
So the Rega DAC R can be taken to heights beyond the Saturn R with a good transport? I believe it! I have tried an Apollo R and CA CXC as transports and preferred the CXC. Been itching to upgrade my digital but love how the Rega frames the music. Maybe a better transport is needed? Nuprime has a...
Not interested in any DAC that is sterile or detail focused. I'm happy with my Rega DAC R does everything right IMO just in pursuit of something that builds and improves on how the Rega sounds. Leaning towards a Bryston DAC or CDP or Tron DAC now. Maybe Rega will introduce a reference level DAC.
It was a long time ago when I did the switch, there was a slight difference in presentation that I normalized to very fast. The Osiris drove my NBLs much better it was like a huge amp upgrade, better everything and smoother because it did it with ease. I used the money I pulled out and upgraded...
The Qutest is on my list, the Tron Convergence is as well. The approach seems to be different with the Tron ,no upsampling, no filters and only 16bit. Interesting approach in today's market. I would prefer to maximize CD playback vs having a DAC that does everything. Musical is very important.
