    Volvo’s last diesel engined car

I'm hanging on to my XC90 D5 for as long as possible. Buying an EX90 for >£100k just doesn't make sense, particularly if you are using the car for long journeys with 4 people and a lot of luggage on-board. 1100km to the Alps wascovered in the XC90 with barely any stops as it has a ~1000km...

Linn Lingo mk1 LP12 not working

After being switched off for about a year, I plugged in my 1990 vintage LP12 last night to listen to some vinyl. When I press the start button on the LP12 plinth neither the red or green light will come on and the platter does not spin. The power light on the Lingo is on and the cable is...

What is the net zero CO2 level?

We are nowhere near needing population reduction. Is the current atmospheric CO2 causing climate change that is having a material impact on life? No.

What is the net zero CO2 level?

[/USER] Are you ignoring trees and plants consuming CO2?

What is the net zero CO2 level?

I think we will be just fine. Over the last 50 years, how many of the environmental doom predictions have come true? None.

    Naim Statement

Yes, I heard the Statement when it was first released at the Bristol show in 2014. It's quite impressive how a mobile phone accurately captured the sound in the room. My conclusion? It was not better than the system I listen to at home at a tiny fraction of the price.

Linn Majik sub-chassis vs kore vs Keel

I have a PhD in physics... Same question you didn't answer: what is the source of the energy and where are you hoping to transmit it?

Linn Majik sub-chassis vs kore vs Keel

With a sub-chassis what energy are you suggesting it is transmitting? Where is the energy coming from and where is it going? Any structure, no matter the material, shape, or size will resonate. You can change the frequency at which it will resonate and for how long (damping), but you cannot...

Linn Majik sub-chassis vs kore vs Keel

Does it need to be stiffer? The chassis and arm board are not subjected to huge forces and the original arm board is more than stiff enough. The problem was how it was mounted to the sub-chassis.

Linn Majik sub-chassis vs kore vs Keel

Given the old sub-chassis design relied, rather bafflingly, on a few small wood screws to hold the arm board in place, the Majik is an obviously better solution. Once you have a single piece of metal between the bearing and the arm base you have reached the optimal solution. The Keel is just...

Speaker cable from Teddy Pardo MB 100s

I have used Naim NAC A5 and Teddy Pardo's own speaker cable from MB100 into Naim SBLs. The TP speaker cable is much easier to work with as it is a lot more flexible and comes with very nice connectors. Unfortunately, I don't think he sells it anymore. However, I would not say there was any...

So you just set up a new turntable. What's the first record you stick on and why?

John Lee Hooker & Carlos Santana - The Healer I have heard the track on so many different turntables and digital systems I know it inside out. It has complex percussion and you know the system is great if you can follow all the different patterns clearly.

    HiFi: old man's (end)game?

The price of high-quality second-hand analogue gear is steadily creeping up though. I'd be a rich man if I had bought all the Garrard 301/401s that were once available on eBay for £200 (or less) when they were out of fashion. Similarly, I very nearly bought a mint Sony Pro Walkman for £170 a...
