Previously happy LP12 owners who moved on.....

Hi @ex brickie -- I have no intention of selling my LP12, but I might add another turntable at some point, in which case I'd want a Garrard or a Thorens TD-124. Repairable forever and no big bills lurking! If I lived in the UK, I probably would have bought one of these very nice examples...

    Current Kore substitutes

Agreed. They're not that expensive (relatively) used. I have an Aro Kore that I've been trying to sell for a while now!

I use Roon these days, but prior to that I used the iPeng app on my iPhone and that seemed to do the job.

My main piece of unsolicited advice is to find an interface that makes it easy-ish to find and play internet radio streams. This is where the magic really lies, for me! Being able to play, say, a shoegaze station from Southern California or any number of FIP channels is just incredible.

Has anyone bought a product because of a recommendation on ASR?

Hi SJB, Yes, I have. I checked ASR for a cheap DAC that measured decently, to tide me over while my Chord Hugo 2 was out for repair. I bought a Topping D10 and couldn't tell the difference between the two DACs. (The Hugo had a battery problem but could play for long enough for me to get a...

    Audial Model S DAC

Ha! I'm a FIP addict and listen pretty much all day, much to my wife's chagrin. I'm currently streaming Roon via a Sonore ultraRendu and fancy power supply, into an RME DAC. It sounds better than it has any right to, honestly... but I've had it in the back of my mind to at least try something...

    Audial Model S DAC

Internet radio is pretty much all I stream (otherwise I put on a record) and I'm curious about improving the sound of low bitrate stuff. To what do you attribute the better sound you're getting -- to the Innuos or the Audial, or both? (This topic may be worthy of a thread... I'm also weighing...

    [WTD] Linn LP12 parts

Hi @Mr Pig -- I have this stuff for sale in the US, if it's of interest. I have a couple baseboards in there, as well. I'd be willing to do a deal for a fellow PFMer. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650084188-linn-lp12-black-ash-plinth-top-plate-and-cirkus-bearing-kit/...

    Naim Aro

Likewise! I use the two-hand method: I rest the "pinky" side of my left hand on the plinth and use my left index finger to steady my right hand as I'm lowering the needle into the groove. Works great and becomes second nature after not too long!

Do not over-tighten the cartridge bolts and you will be fine.

    Linn bloody Linn

So, if I understand correctly, your gear would be repairable, but for Linn's insistence on keeping secrets? If so, seems like pretty poor form from Linn. I don't see why they couldn't work with an outside servicer (as Naim do with Class A) who could repair the old kit under a non-disclosure...

New LP12 hinges - insert metal sheet now?

Huh! I bought a (supposedly) new set about 5 years ago and they only barely held/hold the lid up, so I thought Stereophile must have gotten slipped the latest and greatest.

New LP12 hinges - insert metal sheet now?

Linn must have made a few sets that can be installed on regular plinths -- the LP12 that was reviewed in Stereophile was supplied with them. At the time the review came out -June 2022, well before the LP12 50 was announced- I thought it was really weird that Herb Reichert mentioned these...

Have dacs changed so much in 10 years.

This is really making me curious about the Renew! Have you had any problems using it with Roon, or has it been smooth sailing?

    McIntosh

Like an even uglier Naim Solstice -- indeed, both turntables are made by Clearaudio. As for the new MC275, it and its LED lights feature prominently in the hifi/vinyl horror series "Deadwax"!
