I'm about to have my evening shave (part II)

Pretty much, though he's rushing and pays for it with those weepers. This is more like it: https://youtu.be/sDq-2ZRVYXA

I mostly use straights now but still enjoy the occasional DE shave.

    Sun fading veneer

Cambridge traditional beeswax polish worked wonders on a pair of Castle speakers where one had faded making them look like a very odd pair. Didn't bring them back to being identical but it was very close and well worth the effort. http://cambridgetraditionalproducts.co.uk/beeswax-furniture-polish/

    sony 700es repair advice

Sorry, I completely forgot about this thread. Its one of those things that's near impossible to diagnose via photo's... It'll need those outputs pulling and testing, just because its not burnt/smelly doesn't mean its not "blown" - Though I do agree it doesn't appear to have been a...

    sony 700es repair advice

The output stage will be fried Jamie. With the speakers wired like that its no surprised to be honest. The way speaker A/B selectors work you have effectively wired the speakers in parallel halving the impedance and your average Jap amp does not take kindly to it at all.

    Luxman Amps

I'm familiar with TVK, thanks. Your reply is most amusing... I assume I hit a nerve as you're extremely defensive of the brand ? I don't for one second believe they shared any key parts or designs, if they did Luxmans quality would be far better than it was. AFAIK one of Luxman's founders...

    Luxman Amps

Not tried any of the newer stuff but had a few of their 70's amps/turntables... Plodding, slow, muddy, dull etc. Also found the build quality to be pretty crap, couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about to be honest. Now Accuphase on the other hand... That is quality kit.

Audio Note UK - impressive at KLAV

Interesting reads, thanks. Looks like six of one, half dozen of the other to me.

Which brand of Capacitors do Naim use?

All of the current stuff I've seen inside of uses lots of SMD so its tricky to identify the small value 'lytics but the tants are definitely still AVX and the reservoir caps appear to be Kemet rebranded BHC. I agree with the sentiments expressed above, don't replace tants with films in Naim...

Luxman Speaker components. Anybody recognise them?

Luxman were owned by Alpine for a while weren't they ? Would explain the decent car audio.

Tweaking a Rega Planet CD Player

I've always been at odds with the Planet (mk1) I love the looks but not a fan of the the coloured sound :( Not tried it as a transport so cannot comment on that side of things. I've fixed a couple for people, the most common issue is one or more of the four 1N4003 rectifier diodes making up the...

    Naim Nac 12

They are decent (by standards of the time) and do last quite well in Naim equipment agreed but are usually on their last legs in B&O gear... Depends how they are used within a circuit I suppose.

Theres a Polish company on eBay that sells NOS ROE Maroon caps... Possibly useless now having sat dormant for years but interesting if you were to reform them. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&toolid=10001&campid=5338728743&icep_item=261966375801
