Is it safe to use a pair of 4ohm speakers with a stereo amplifier which is spec'd for 8ohms?

Is it safe to use a pair of 4ohm speakers with a stereo amplifier? The amp is a Copland CSA14 integrated amp, which has a valve part in the preamp but the output section is solid state. The specs of the amp quotes 60watts per channel into 8ohms. I have read one review where the author said...

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Nope, I am having difficulty with this...I feel inexperienced with electronics... more of a mechanical guy, I guess, although I'm perfectly competent at soldering etc.....But all I'm getting at the moment is hum...despite having used a number of combinations of the leads. Not successful. Any...

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Each steel canister is 40mm long x 42mm diameter. Now mounted on a case, about to do a trial hookup to test.... https://imgur.com/gallery/oMja5kn

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

As I say, I have no guarantee if they even ARE emt's! Going to rig up some RCA sockets to one this morning and try it in place of my current high quality SUT, which is based on a pair of Hashimoto transformers.

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Ok, here are some pics....on Imgur, so I hope they show up! https://imgur.com/a/aQEwHxO As a guide to scale, the plastic frame for the transformer is around 38mm x 30mm x 20mm, and the steel canister is 40mm long x 42mm diameter.

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

I'm not myself convinced that it is an EMT transformer. The fact is that somebody used sticky back vinyl to put the term" EMT T90/3" on the side of the casing. So I don't know whether that is relevant or not. I'm sure it won't be original labelling. It has some of the hallmarks of a Jensen...

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Thank you. Is there an easy way for me to measure / calculate the impedance? Ok, I'll wire up a few RCA sockets over the next few days and report back.

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Ok, I bought a multimeter and tried all possible combinations of wires. This is what I'm getting (checked on both the transformers, which are both close in values): Red to White reads approx 125 ohms Blue to Yellow reads approx 105 ohms Black to Green reads approx 240 ohms So are the...

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Thank you! That's reassuring. I will give it a go in the next couple of weeks and see what I can measure.

Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

A few years ago I bought a pair of moving coil transformers, without an enclosure, RCAs etc. They have sat unused for a long time! They were marked 'EMT T90/3' but I have been in touch with EMT and they don't recognise the code. So, now I want to put them to use. They are transformers mounted in...

    Naim NAP160 help

I have just disconnected the two pairs of + and - voltage 2.8mm connectors from the circuit boards, so that if there was a fault in the power section, it wouldn't blow the boards or the output devices. Everything looks good when slowly powered up with a Variac. No nasty flashes, bangs or...

    Naim NAP160 help

Thank you for the advice. I wish to keep the power circuit original, without rewiring it using a bridge rectifier. The rectifier diodes may well be fine, but I just wanted to establish what type they are anyway!

    Naim NAP160 help

I need some info about the Motorola MR2002S rectifiers please. The diode symbol on the blue ceramic part of the body POINTS towards the metal threaded stud. Are these therefore CATHODE STUD rectifiers?

    Naim NAP160 help

Brilliant, thank you! You don't happen to have an original schematic of a NAP160 do you? I can't locate one that seems genuine, anywhere. It's the power and power supply section, rather than the amp boards themselves that I am interested in. Thank you!
