Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

Easy to re-enable it with a dab of solder. I’ll listen for a while and see if I hear any difference, then re-enable if I don’t.

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

I disabled the SOA circuitry on the "modded" (Avondale PSU) 110 this morning, but didn't hear any immediate difference. We'll see if my ears pick anything up with other records. Semi-related question: Does anyone have a part source for the heatsink used for the NAPA boards on the 110, or one of...

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

That's what set me on this lastest journey. I wasn't expecting to like the 110 in comparison to the 135s, but it just sounded special: airy and exciting. The first track I played through the system with the 110 in place was Can's "Future Days," and I could barely believe it: a massive, charged...

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

Thanks — I’ll have to look into that! Excellent idea and I don’t mind swapping a few resistors and listening to the effect.

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

Yep, I've got the image below in one of my many note files, taken from @allen6266's contribution to this thread. Just snip the legs of those two diodes, I believe.

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

I'm about as locked into my crossover setup as a person can be: I built my own external crossovers... then potted them in epoxy! I do like the idea of a 4-pack of 110s... but not for now! I do plan to experiment with disabling the SOA on the 110s. Currently in place on both 110s. I'm...

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

In this thread, @misterc6 posted the below photo of a 110 conversion with what I think is a Hackercap doing its duty in a 110. Tight fit, but I think okay.

Advice for Mono Naim Nap 110 Build

Last summer, I was looking for a 32.5 and a Snaps, and ended up finding someone selling both who threw in a Nap 110 for free. Since I had CB 135s at the time, I didn't even try the 110 until a few weeks ago, in a moment of idle curiosity. And what do you know: I liked the 110 better than the...

    Tiger Paw Tranquility

I should say that I have after reading reports like that of @matfff I ordered a Karousel of my own. It will be here shortly. I have a few little projects to wrap up first, but a Karousel vs. Cirkus+Tranquility shootout is coming up in the next month or so...

Exhaustive review of the SSP12 inner platter for LP12

For what it's worth, I still think that a better solution would be to raise the tacho toward the platter by putting some blu tack underneath it, rather than lowering the disc toward the tacho by putting two-sided tape underneath it. Never experienced the issue with the platter failing to stop.

Exhaustive review of the SSP12 inner platter for LP12

Yep, that's what I use -- I'd get some blu tack out and move the tacho around (and up and down too, closer and further from the underside of the platter) until it's steady...

Exhaustive review of the SSP12 inner platter for LP12

I think by far the most likely issue is tacho positioning. Spend your time and effort there (after checking power leads as @matfff suggests above) and I think you'll get it sorted out. Use the brass piece as a guide for where to set the tacho (even if you don't use the brass piece), then make...

Exhaustive review of the SSP12 inner platter for LP12

I don't see why the subchassis would have any effect at all. I happen to have weighted a Greenstreet and a Mober, and they both weigh about the same. My Greenstreet was 1.033 kg and the Mober 1.011 kg. https://www.hifiaf.com/three-lp12-subchassis/ I used a Greenstreet/Mober combination with...

"ZapSnaps": Turning a Naim Snaps into a quasi-ZapCap with a Ryan Sound Labs PSM-2 module

Haha, I had no idea! I mean, I knew Mark had an Olive Snaps, but didn't realize its parallel backstory! Would it be immodest to suggest another maxim? Great minds...

"ZapSnaps": Turning a Naim Snaps into a quasi-ZapCap with a Ryan Sound Labs PSM-2 module

Over the summer, I read lots of positive reviews of the RSL ZapCap. I also read that Kit Ryan thought a ZapCap sounded better (cleaner, faster, tighter) than a HiCap modded with his RSL PSM-1 module, because its smaller transformer (120VA vs 500VA) was actually beneficial to the tone. So I...
