    Behringer 2496 dac vs.?

I know Jan Didden. His DCX2496 is one of the 2 modified DCX2496's that I have heard in the past. I don't remember if he also bypasses the resampler (the other modified DCX2496 that I heard didn't). The modifications better the DCX2496 a lot. But the resampler is still a problem (to my ears). I...

    Behringer 2496 dac vs.?

Yes, I use the BMC-2 for domestic listening. I prefer neutral. I like the Naim sound. But in the end it is not neutral. I use the BMC-2 with a Naim HDX. My amplification is Bel Canto Pre3 preamp with Micromega S120 poweramp and Spendor SR5 speakers. 1st example: The S120 has some...

    Behringer 2496 dac vs.?

I had a Rega DAC (non "R"). It sounds different than the SRC2496. And in my opinion the Rega is not better in all area's (more Hi-Fi like Naim (sorry), less neutral). Hans

    Behringer 2496 dac vs.?

I prefer the SRC2496 as DAC above the DEQ2496 (own both). Use "DIG IN" for "CLOCK" (SRC2496), then it doesn't resample and uses its PLL to dejitter (does it pretty good). I have the feeling that the SRC2496 is also better than the DCX2496 (I heard many time a modified one). The DCX2496 always...

Is anyone using a high end mono hifi?

In theory I prefer mono: A sound source in real life is most times a single source. The sound from it comes with 2 delays to our 2 ears. With a mono reproduction sytem you replicate this. With stereo you get 2 sources with 4 delays to our 2 ears (clear?). This gives a less clear sound. I think...

    Royd Minstrels vs Linn Nexus

I have had a pair of Linn Nexus speakers. For most part I agree with Waldman. They indeed need a huge room, must be placed close to the back wall and most importantly they need a high damping factor from the amplifier. Back then I chose Naim amplification; these have a low damping factor (around...

47 Labs new products and new directions?

I was at that show in Utrecht and I heard both setups. They sounded good! But I have always liked 47 Labs.

    Music Hall Dac

I really like this DAC (I have one). But it needs a good digital source, otherwise it is nothing special (I use Naim HDX). But I like the Rega DAC more (have it also). But these two sound very different, taste dependend what you prefer.

    ROKSAN power amps

Thank you all. I am not running now to the shop (around 100 mile), but I keep them in my mind. Hans

    ROKSAN power amps

What do you think about the power amps of ROKSAN? I have heard them a few times in an all ROKSAN system. Long ago and on some shows, not good enough to have a good idea, but definitely not bad. I am thinking about one of the new amps, the Kandy K2 or the Caspian M series -1 stereo. I have...

    New Speaker recommendations under £400?

Boston A25 Here in Holland a real hit. I am running it with a PS Audio A-100, but it works also very well on tube amps (have heard it in a friends system). It replaced my Linn Majik 140's. And with a Naim HDX as source this is now a real source first system. Hans

Linn Majik DS: how good is it as a transport?

I have had a demo at my dealers place between a Sonos system and a Majik DS as digital source. The DAC was the Naim one in both cases. The difference was very big (naturally in favour of the Linn). We did also heard the Sonos alone (much worse than Sonos with Naim DAC, but not all that bad...

    Marantz DLT-1

I have one somewhere. I used it in several systems over the years. My conclusion is that it does not sit in the way of the music that much. But, in most systems it gave a little boost to the bass. I think that has to do with loading, but I am no transformer wizard, so it is just a guess.

    DIY-Cap with laboratory supply

Hello all, what about: Using a laboratory supply of 30 Volts as an input for the regulators? The output of the DIY-Cap will be 2 times 24 Volts. I can then use single or dual regualtion (enough voltage drop). One of the better laboratory supplies will be used (1 mV ripple at 30 Volts and...
