...and the west lectures Russia and China!

Indeed - if the thread title were "Disgusting Torture Carried Out by USA officials" or something similar, then we'd probably be pretty much in agreement. (Any discussion might then be about protest or other action.) But the title was not that, and actually raises an important point about the...

Of course I condemn what is happening in Guantanamo Bay, as I've indicated above. That said, I don't think debating with you is going to achieve much for either of us. And thanks for the put-down re Moral Relativism.

Word definitions are slippery things. I agree the measurement of evil is not an exact science, but if you are going to dispute its usefulness as a concept, then the validity of many other common-place human attributes or other words (love, pity, generosity, the colour yellow) should also be...

Quite possibly it might work if applied extremely selectively. (Its sometimes comes up in a "moral maze" type question such as whether it might be justified in some hypothetical situation such as having caught someone who's hidden an atomic bomb somewhere in a large City, in trying to locate...

Yes I agree, of course torture should be condemned utterly, my point is that this shouldn't stop "the West" condemning Putin for his actions (more than condemning, since as has been pointed out above this isn't of much practical use, but actively opposing him via sanctions, and by supporting...

Morality is always relative though, isn't it? Otherwise only the perfect could ever condemn the actions of another. I doubt anyone here would think they are a perfect being, but plenty condemn the actions of (for example) the Tory government.

At least the conclusion seemed to be that torture is not effective in soliciting information (though I though this had already been well established, as its pretty obvious really - someone under torture is liable to say anything the inquisitors want just to make it stop). Undoubteably evil (and...

    System Pics 2023

I'm sure the natural building materials Inc lack of concrete floor, mdf, cheap plasterboard etc adds a lot to make an overall warmer sound! Very nice listening room.

    Fed Up With Volumio...

As you say, for the LMS server component, the strong recommendation is not to simply turn the power off without first shutting the LMS process down via a software command. But there is a fairly convenient way to do this: On the picore player "Tweaks" page, there is a section "Poweroff/Shutdown...

    Audio Show East - Signals

It's easy of course just to try picoreplayer to see how you get on with it....just a download and a bit of fairly easy config to set up DAC, File-storage, WiFi (if needed, I'm now on direct Ethernet) and whatever apps you use like Spotify, Qobuz, BBC Sounds, Radio Paradise etc. Happy to talk you...

    Audio Show East - Signals

Oh dear....sorry to hear that. I'd like to help if I can, but my only experience is with running picoreplayer (on pi4). It was good to chat with you too. Good luck if you decide to transition to the big ATCs.....

    Audio Show East - Signals

I'd agree the ATCs sounded very nice indeed. I'd didn't get to hear music I liked on them, but a striking thing was the firm and visceral bass present when required, but only when required. Also capable of sounding light and airy as the music dictated.

    Logitech Media Server Issue

Using combined LMS server & picoreplayer on a Pi4, I find I do end up with a corrupted SD card every 2 months or so, which entails a fresh install. This never used to happen until I started using the Qobuz plugin, and I think the problem tends to occur when after doing extensive searches on...

Coronavirus - the new strain XXIV

I found the actual procedure completely painless (I had some mild medication that they described as a "gin & tonic on the NHS".)
