    Housing market

At least our roof is new and the gutters look fine! Everything else will be a series of surprises, although all of the safety certificates are fortunately in place.

    Housing market

Gosh, I'm embarrassed to admit I cannot remember if this one had stained glass on the inner entrance door. There is very nice coving in the sitting room and if I remember correctly there is a ceiling rose too. We've been there twice, once back in January and once at the beginning of March. The...

    Housing market

Sorry I missed the notification when you originally posted this. For us, the biggest factors in choosing the house we did (which, by the way, I've learned is technically Edwardian, not Victorian, with the covenant dating to 1902), were a) space, in which the high ceilings play a positive role...

Beautiful room! And you made me realize I made a mistake: the covenant of our house dates to 1902 so in fact it must be Edwardian too. I plead foreigner ignorance and laziness. That invalidates the whole discussion. Sorry guys! We need to start over.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We're not moving in until late April but obviously I'm already thinking about how I want to arrange everything. I'll be glad to have this thread as a manual!

HiFi in standard Victorian sitting rooms

Good to know! There is a second reception room, as well as a breakfast room that the current owners already joined with the kitchen. Combining the two reception rooms had crossed my mind but the plan is to keep them separate, with the other as a play room, which brings entirely different...
