bottle jacks are usually ok, for some reason. Just a bit impractical for what I need to do. 15-year old ones are probably a lot better made than what we get today. The cheap-ish kit is a false economy when it only lasts 2 or 3 years.

One of the difficulties with buying anything these days is that it all looks the same, its near impossible for the individual to tell what is well built and what is a rubbish copy, especially where internal parts are concerned. Ive got the pad from the old jack, its useable still. Cant get the pump apart to access the seals, dont have a socket big enough in my 3/4" set. Tried with a big stilson,was moving the workbench my vice is on. Not happening :( yes, made as cheap as possible,, not repairable, throw away by again...
