For £400 I’d get a Rega Brio-R. It replaced my 8000A many years ago and it was quite better, and since it’s much newer it won’t need any maintenance soon. The phono amp is quite good in both.

Try unplugging every appliance in you house in that ring main to see if it’s something polluting the mains. Then try to see in every plug where the loop is coming from. Or get an electrician to do that.
