    Chord Qutest question ...

The Hugo2 sounds better unplugged from the mains (using the battery). A bit more full and relaxed. Have wondered if a LPS would have the same effect on this, or would have on the Qutest.

    Chord Qutest question ...

I thought the Qutest was brilliant. At first it sometimes seemed a bit too forensic with less well recorded stuff (say rock/indie), even coming from the 2Qute. But once you get used to the level and nature of detail, or inner detail, I missed it not being in anything else. So yes give it some...

    The Rega Elicit Mk5

Nice one. Really interested how you find the internal DAC compared to the Qutest.

    100% this.

    Standmount Recommendations

If you can't fit the AN-Js in, do try K series or AX2 if possible. Such a natural sound from them all. Advantage in a small room in particular is they work well close to walls/corners, if that's useful. Complete contrast to the ProAc D2s I had which needed quite a lot of space around them to...

Half-Space(ish) speakers - Close to rear wall

Kudos X2 perhaps. Worked well close to the walls for me. Nice rounded little speakers. 780mm tall.

Has anyone bought a product because of a recommendation on ASR?

To quote myself from another thread (how terribly vain)....

    DAC yes/no

Couldn't agree with this more. The only other DAC I've had that competed with the Chord ones in terms of not 'not sounding quite right' was an Audio Note one. All others didn't have they in the long term. Odd in that Chord and AN are such different designs and approaches, but both get something...

    DAC yes/no

Cost is so relative. Say £1k on a used Chord DAC that keeps its value well and has good UK-based customer support makes more sense to me than (say) £500 on a Chinese one that's never going to keep value so well, and potentially end up a door stop is customer support is ever needed in the event...

    DAC yes/no

Qutest will make a big uplift over the Node DAC (have had both). At least different to the Rega. Worth trying that and others if possible.

The best audio system on earth?

Most impressive sounding system I've ever heard was sat plonked on cloth covered tables and with normal size (albeit probably not cheap) speaker cables strewn across the floor. An Audio Note one at the NW audio show a few years ago. Think it's was their mid-range components too. No fuss, all...

Audio Note Soro SE - Which one would you buy ??

Had noticed the used amp prices going up a heck of a lot.Well at least the prices being asked. Hoped/presumed some temporary lockdown type quirk.

    Warm, rich sounding dac

Rega, or Chord Mojo. Both rounded, 'un-digital' sounding, fatigue-free DACs IMO. Chord with a bit more upper sparkle and inner detail.

    Nikon AF motor repair cost/thoughts

The autofocus stopped working on my Nikon 300mm f4 D AF-S. Lens otherwise and manual focussing fine. Sent it to Nikon and they said it needed a new silent wave motor fitting… for an estimate of £774! Ouch. You can get a decent used lens itself for less than half that and it’s hard to stomach. I...
