    Naim solstice price

Lingo 2 and Ekos 1 were a long time ago, those issues are probably why they don't keep stocks of finished items now. Yes there were some piles of the bits they buy in but since they make the casework and brackets that hold it all together they just run them off when needed. It has to be seen to...

    Naim solstice price

I don't think the dealers were persuaded to remove the adverts through Naim buying back the stock. I am also sure that others used to dissuade dealers from offering discounts in the past, so nothing new really. It's a shame they didn't all sell, even if only to deluded buyers, as it will have...

    Second hand Hifi prices

My idea of wealthy is those I know who sold their business for £80 Million, however I doubt they have any sort of music system worth considering between them. The rest of us trail some way behind. Is it parasitic to rely on those with more money than sense to pay full price for kit then pass...

    Second hand Hifi prices

I reckon the sell off will be equipment already on its second or later owners. The wealthy who buy high end new kit won't be affected, those who could only afford used probably will. Weaker demand for mid priced new kit will squeeze manufacturers which is probably bad for all of us.

    Linn LP12s – Fire away!

For me the very thing that people slate the LP12 for - the upgrades - are what makes it a keeper in the long term. To improve most turntables you have it sell them and buy another one. With the LP12 you have the manufacturer supporting it and the option to make improvements at a fraction of...

    Starting again

I sort of did this some years ago to make a second system. LP12 - £1000, not the one I have now but would have got a reasonable one with arm and cartridge NAD 3020 and HB1's from the loft, ie the ones I did buy back in the day. Sounded good but old kit is much cheaper now than when it was new...

    What's your Discogs collection value?

I think the Discogs values are a good indicator of what you might need to pay to replace a collection, and therefore what you might want to insure it for. It soon follows that most home insurance doesn't cover a collection as standard and you need to have it as a named item, however this isn't...

More potential foo and voodoo - turning the mains plugs

Surely the UK has the advantage in that all the cables have the same orientation, and that was before Brexit! I'm waiting for the new Scottish (independence) plug with six pins just to be better than anyone else.

    AV5103 starting problems

My dealer said they do get very hot particularly the power supply. I would still give it a go.

    AV5103 starting problems

Likely the mains switch is on the way out. When mine started playing up I just left it on and put on standby when not in use. My cheap bargain meant to fill in for six months must have been going for at least six years now. Agree to do the PSU caps but replace the switch too.

Car off road for 9 years: get it roadworthy again or scrap it?

If you're not fixing it then advertise in the classic car papers, that way it will go to a good home instead of being scrapped. It's definitely fixable but you need a good reason to spend the time on it and possibly some cash too. Tyres aren't considered safe after 10 years.

How to dispose of ruined vinyl LPs for the most environmentally clean way ..

Isn't there a company that pays 10p a record or 10p a kilo just like the ones that buy clothes that way? Pass on the problem to the professionals and make a few pence at the sane time. Can't they melt them down into lilo's or something? Whatever you do I bet they end up in high temperature...

    Tumble dryers..?

I once bought the latest in heat pump dryers thinking it would save electricity and it was a total loss, so bad at drying that I scrapped it while it was still under the warranty having been repaired three times and never drying clothes properly. Whirlpool or Indesit I think. I now consider...

    Symptoms of nap200 needing servicing

Back in the day when I bought a set of LK100's Linn supplied spare fuses in the box and the dealer advised to make sure that the plugs were fitted with 13 amp fuses as the currents drawn would eventually cause them to break. Suffice to say that I never needed to change any and they were...

    Symptoms of nap200 needing servicing

I think most will agree there's no point in leaving power amps switched on. The heat will destroy the capacitors over time, music or not.
