Atc pre-amp has already been mentioned, try hunting around for a 2nd hand Music First Audio passive pre-amp never know you might pick one up relatively cheap. If thinking in that direction, contact MFA as they sometimes have "pre used" units.

Any item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Sellers often have "lofty" ideas of an item's worth, and "try it on a lot". Considering it is going to cost close to £2k for upgrade, servicing etc., also the condition of the cabinets ought to be taken into account as well in any offer...

Around £1500 sounds about right. Had my active 50's done 3 years ago and it took 8 weeks.

Why not use a small spirit level? Use it for levelling turntable, racks as well as speakers.
