    New Bearing for LP12--The Karousel

Two years ago I’ve got a new Cirkus kit from Peter of Cymbiosis. It was an update of mine not too old bearing. I think, that Linn have worked on it, as it was better not only sonically. After I switch off the motor, the platter is spinning about half a minute more than the previous one...

Unipivot arms - which one and what are the benefits?

Well, I didn’t like the results from the additional pair of holes (on the correct place). I guess the Aro headshell is too thin to accommodate more holes. I got the best results with the left hole modified - enlarged by about 1mm backwards. Another upgrade, which I did, was to replace the...

    Tiger Paw Javelin Tone Arm

Stylus to mounting hole distance is 11mm, measured from the hole center. Koetsu use 2,6mm bolts, the majority of the carts - 2,5. So far I get the best mounting and sounding results, when I make the left hole of the Aro headshell slightly wider. I tried with two more holes and geometry is fine...

    Tiger Paw Javelin Tone Arm

A good idea from Peter, again. I would try an arm top in this case. And, if you offer custom made headshell holes, so my Koetsu fits perfectly, this will reach the goal. Years ago I was looking for a blank Aro headshell, in order to drill the correct holes for my cart, but it was too late.

    ARO/Cartridge Compatibility

IME enlarging the left headshell hole makes a positive difference for Koetsu. I would recommend this modification. No more than 1,5-2mm. And of course the heavier counterweight.

    Aro heavy counterweight

It is worth removing the small balance weight from the side stub of the Aro or replacing it with a metal only object. I found, that the silicon inside the balance weight is damping the sound. I did not expect this, because it's so small, but it has a similar effect as Blu-Tack on the fingerlift.

    Naim alternatives (again)

    DBL & 300 (or 500 for HF).

Naim ARO with Non Linn Cartridges

I enlarged (slightly) the left mounting hole on the headshell, in order to accommodate a Koetsu cart. This had a positive effect.

    Cartridge washers

My experience, too. Nylon washers are damping the sound, aluminum bolts go a bit on the thin side. But sometimes this may compensate something in a certain system.
