This is the minimum hardware conversion I have come up with to convert a boot failure unitiserve to useful volumio player.
1. remove the naim sound card and associated hardware .
2.Wipe the hard disk ( or replace if faulty ) . Install volumio-2.916-2021-10-01-x86 image using balena etcher onto...
If it's anything like the micro atx board in the unitiserve then it will be 32bit cpu . You can put an old 32bit image of linux on it but you will then struggle to find any suitable modern software to run at 32 bits.
I'm in a relatively old house with thick walls that don't play well with wifi . I also found that in practice even with ax WiFi6 real world throughput was higher with 1 gig wired connections .
Never heard of unifi to be honest . Cisco don't seem to do small multigig switches only zyxel and qnap are easily available . The hardware is certainly faster than 1gig cisco stuff but the software for managed switches is nowhere near as comprehensive .
Thought I would post my experiences with an upgraded virgin 1gig broadband with multigig ( 2.5Gbe ) router .
As I was getting this installed I thought I may as well upgrade the rest of my network with multigig switches . I opted for qnap switches which provide 10Gbe backbone through the house...
I was recently looking at electric fields around ethernet and coaxial cables on the basis that what goes on inside is just 0s and 1s - there can also be differences in the way grounding is handled of course . Comparing a generic cat 6 to a chord c-stream ethernet cable , both came out at about...
Further update to above . Although you have to pay for the cd ripper plugin for volumio it seems abcde command line cd ripper software is already built in so if you log in via a ssh client and learn a few ubuntu file commands you can use this to rip cds using the unitiserve cdrom alone .
No one seems to have suggested replacing the bios battery yet so that might be worthwhile . Unfortunately you then need a keyboard and screen ( VGA at its simplest or with a vga to hdmi converter ) in order to reset the bios to naim defaults .
In practice it is likely to be a corrupted or...
Meridian 205 s power on with signal - come as mono blocks and don't require a dedicated preamp . Main drawback is they are still very popular with prices to match.
If it is the original vacuum fluorescent display then the conventional answer is no - the later led display should be repairable . In theory you could probably use a raspberry pi to measure the voltage on the varicap diode and drive a new display but in practice I know of noone who has ever done...
