Modern alternative to Adobe Lightroom (without a sub)

I think Adobe creative cloud photography plan at £9.98 a month is an absolute bargain. It includes Lightroom Classic, which is the full desktop Lightroom, Lightroom which is the desktop version which can access your folders directly without needing to use the library module and uses the cloud...

    The PFM Environment thread

Actually February 1779 was hotter with a mean of 7.9: https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/data/meantemp_monthly_totals.txt But if you think that a mean temperature is any indication of reality you really do not understand statistics. A mean is not an actual measurement it is a statistic...

    The PFM Environment thread

According to that model it will happen in 3782AD and require seven times the total volume of ice in the Greenland ice cap. So not enough water available and not remotely possible to predict what might happen in 1700 years, especially given the the most recent data show that the AMOC has been...

    The PFM Environment thread

That's an old story from July last year that was based on modelling with ridiculously implausible inputs such as freshwater flowing in to the Atlantic sufficiently fast enough to raise sea levels by 6cms per year Prof Jonathan Bamber, Director of the Bristol Glaciology Centre, University of...

    Ian Lavender RIP

Sad news indeed. I taught both his sons at the Perse in Cambridge and was their form tutor for several years so got to know him. He was the most personable, down to earth person. A lovely guy and will be sadly missed.

    New monitor.

That's good to hear as to replace it with something equivalent would be rather expensive and could possibly need an upgrade to my graphics card.

    New monitor.

I'm currently thinking about whether I should buy a new monitor so interested to hear what others have found. I currently use a 27" NEC Multisync monitor which I have had for quite a few years now. It's a wide gamut monitor with very comprehensive user adjustable settings and I calibrate it...

    Anyone using Adobe 'Photography'

https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html Adobe says Lightroom needs a GPU with a minimum of 2GB VRAM and a benchmark score of 2000, which is pretty low. So even relatively old GPUs work. Puget Systems, who build computers for photo processing found: "What GPU...

Using a GTX 1080 graphics card as, apparently, lightroom doesn't need anything much better.

    Anyone using Adobe 'Photography'

On my desktop when Lightroom was beginning to run slowly I upgraded the motherboard to an MSI mag mortar, added an extra 16gb RAM to give 32gb, installed M.2 memory in addition to the existing Samsung Evo 850 SSD and a 12th generation Intel 12400f. Runs lightroom and photoshop much faster than...

pfm Picture A Week (PAW) 2023

Re-edited a few more from a few years ago, which I thought were for deleting, but managed to rescue using the latest versions of lightroom and photoshop. All are quite heavy crops. Lamn Lodge and rice fields_0385-Enhanced-NR-Edit by Colin Bailey, on Flickr Lamn Lodge and rice...

    Upgrading my Nikon D40

I agree about Tokina lenses. I used a Tokina 100mm macro for years that was an excellent lens. In the end it was bettered by my sigma 150 macro which is sharper and gives a greater working distance but is much heavier.
